Lexington Irmo Lake Murray Real Estate Update 12-13-2011

Lexington County Administrator heads to Spartanburg job – Lexington County administrator Katherine Hubbard has been named to the same position in Spartanburg County. Spartanburg County Council approved hiring Hubbard as that county’s new administrator on Monday. She will begin work there Jan. 1. Hubbard has served as the county’s administrator since 2006 and was the county’s first administrator. She will be the first female administrator for Spartanburg County, too. Her salary will be around $150,000 per year and includes a car allowance, according to the Spartanburg Herald Journal. Hubbard was Lexington County’s Human Resources Director from 1997 until 2006. “We wish we could talk her into staying here,” said County Council Chairman Jim Kinard. “Their gain is our loss.” Council will appoint an interim administrator while it searches for a replacement for Hubbard, Kinard said. He said council will discuss the search when it meets next week.

The Lovely Ducklings – Andrew Phillips was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy due to complications at birth. He and his mom live in York and commute daily to The Therapy Place, a local therapy center in the Forest Acres community. The Therapy Place, a non-profit organization, has been very generous by offering scholarships to Andrew to enable him to receive therapies that are very effective but not covered by insurance. Out of humility and gratitude, Jamila Philips felt compelled to give back in some way. She wrote “The Lovely Ducklings” a story about four ducklings who are born with disabilities and have found a way to make a difference in their community in spite of their challenges. The story is inspiring and brings about awareness. People with special needs are a viable part of our community and should be celebrated. “I have been fortunate enough to be able to partner with Susanne Sanders, the owner of Turning Pointe Centre of the Arts in Lexington, said Jamila Phillips, Andrew’s mom. Susanne has choreographed and co-produced this production with me. Her professional company members have also donated their talents and time to make this production a success. I am honored to be able to bring about awareness and display individuals with special needs in a positive light. The production will be performed at the Township Auditorium on Dec. 10 at 6p.m. All of the proceeds will go to The Therapy Place and benefit children and families just like Andrew. They will have an opportunity for innovative treatments not covered by insurance that could very well change the course of their life.
