Glamour photos for agents

I look at my photo and though I hated it when I finally settled on this shot and have come to accept it, I know I can do better.  But what is the ideal?  I want to look like myself.  I do not want to use a photo of me from my college graduation in the dark ages and pretend that is me now as some agents do.  Nor do I want to do one of those airbrushed, head flung back and sideways looks with the Oscar-worthy makeup and unreal hairstyle.  My clients are going to meet me as I am, imperfect, dressed but the accidental glamour shotcasual, definitely not Hollywood.

I don't want black and white though my daughter, as our Keller Williams receptionist for a year or so a while back, had a fabulous one that elicited responses from the high school boys who never asked her out, practically stalking her it was so sexy when she put it on Facebook.  It was a head shot taken by her girlfriend in her bedroom for God's sake!  Yeah, she's a beauty and the guys have grown up.  Another broken-hearted high school experience happily ended by the you-can't-have-me-I-chose-the-nerd scenario.  Wow, therapy pays!

A younger colleague spontaneously offered advice one day saying that my lime green blazer was the perfect color for me, and then commented that she wanted to see me with longer hair, at least resting on my shoulders.  I told my daughter what she said and was advised to follow the lead because that agent has style.  What about me?  Oh, never mind.  So I am following the younger people's advice on hair and letting it get a bit longer - not ridiculous though.  And color, well anyone can benefit from a color consultation.  Another color I have been told is "mine" is royal blue but lime green seems much more now.

Keep an eye out for my new look.  I'm timing it for the redesign of my tragically flawed bargain business card order of 5000, done online.  Who knew the fonts would be so small when the full-page proof was presented.  I'm thinking I'll drop the 4500 remaining ones from a plane over Michigan stadium during the next home game on November 17th with Ohio State.  Anyone younger than 40 should be able to read them.  They won't be offended by the photo.  I'll just look like Mom to them.   Wouldn't that be comforting?  Particularly if they lose....  Let's not think about that.

I've never gotten a glamour photo. However I did ask the photographer to soften the lighting. You must do what feels most comfortable to you.

I'm in need of a new pic too...mine was taken about 10-12 years ago.  I've helped it along by having it turned into a caricature but it's still dated.  I hate the thought of doing one and having every wrinkle and droop show.

When I entered real estate "glamor shots" were all the rage - You know you go to the studio and they do your makeup and hair - the makeup is actor pancake so when you leave you can actually draw on your face!! I kept telling them to not "poof" the hair - and it came out Ok - I don't use that photo any longer - it is tucked away somewhere - I have thought about digging it out for fun.  For some odd reason my husband loves that photo!! lol!! I need to get a new one too, one a bit more professional - just haven't had the time. My photo does look like me. It was taken in May.  Anyway - now that I have written a blog in your blog - I love the color lime green :) I can't wait to see your new look :)

Thanks all, good ideas.  I just turned 29, no 39, no 49, OK....50! last week so I am feeling the need for a lift.  Jo, I'll bet your husband loves that photo since he can cheat on you without leaving home!  That's what I think about glamour shots!

Susan, you are too funny!! Did you really just turn 50? I am headed there shortly and well I haven't decided what huge thing I am going to do!! Did you do something cool?

Well, I went out to dinner with my 3 hilarious teenagers to a new place in town.  Nice medium high-end place.  Immediately upon entering we noticed the antler chandeliers and spent the rest of the dinner breaking out in our favorite song from "Beauty and the Beast", Gaston singing, "I use antlers in all of my deeeeecorating....."  The food was great, there was 20% off the bill since it was my birthday (Halloween) and we laughed a lot.  I had three teens and my husband wanting to spend Halloween with me.  How cool is that?  I would have loved to go far, far away on some exotic vacation but the nature of real estate didn't allow it this year.  Maybe by Christmas or spring break we'll make up for it.  Very enjoyable indeed.  I did get to spend my fortieth birthday livng in London so I really can't complain.  It's a wonderful life!

True confession here..I had a Glamour Shot photo taken fifteen years ago when I worked in theater.  I needed a photo for my program bio, so they sent me to one of those places (yes, they do take guys' photos too on rare occasions) and they put the makeup on with a trowel!  I didn't care for it much.

I think a natural look is best.  The public isn't hiring us for our good looks.

I like the idea of throwing the cards out over the stadium.  Funny.

I need a new picture.  My hair is shorter.  My face is older.... I am not photogenic.

Susan -

You are so funny!  Hope your birthday was a fun one.

I'll be 50 in June.....
My picture is very casual and only a year or so old but I've put on some lbs since it was taken. HHHMMMM  what would be easier?  A new pic or a diet???   HAHA

Talk about a good business card distribution system.  Throwing em out over the stadium is great.  Just make sure you throw them at the home team side.

I was thinking about dropping the cards from the plane last night as I was drifting off to sleep and imagined all kinds of bad outcomes...for starters, people looking up to see what was falling from the sky and being poked in the eye by a sharp card corner.  The cards were graphically flawed but they were heavy stock with a glossy finish and good eye-poking power from on high.  What if the cards landed on the field during a critical play and our Michigan athletes began skidding around on them, killing the game-winning touchdown?  Michigan football is serious stuff and Michigan versus Ohio is as serious as it gets.  My name would be mud, if they let me live!  Maybe I'll just have the plane pull a banner instead.  So much safer.

Susan, we all eagerly await your new look..... love your sense of humor.....

another true story, about 10 years ago, two of my women friends and I went to Glamor Shots to have photos done for our honey's...... ohhhh MY GOD..... the disgusting wardrobe they wanted you to select from and the makeup was about as pasty as it gets..... none of us bought the photos and went for drinks after for a good laugh.....

I just celebrated my 15th anniversary of my 40th birthday.   Horray to being in the 50's club!

Like that stadium idea..... hummmm ..... great guerrilla marketing idea.

Hehe funny but I give you a lot of credit for being yourself in your photos and not glamming up to the point of not being able to recognize you from the pic on your card.

I say that but I look quite different outside of work then I do during work.  At least I think so.
