13 Comments on Federal CELLPHONE BAN???? How will this affect our business?
MaryBeth, is this for real!
GOOD MORNING MARY BETH! I don't know - seems real estate agents made it before cell phones - with a little modification now - they can do just fine! The death toll for texting a driving must be higher than we know if it's come to this.
This is for real as it has been headline news yesterday and today. Check out Good Morning America's website they must have a post there about it or a clip of some of the news stories surrounding this.
Personally I would prefer not to use my cellphone in the car. If there is any weather, heavy rains or snow I will not use my phone while driving but should this be an enforceable event or given over to a driver's good judgement?
MaryBeth, technically, anything that interferes with driving and is a distraction from it, is already on the books as a "ticketable" offense. For some reason, there seems to be a need to spell this out in regards to cell phones. I guess we would have to pull over and stop for calls or return them when we are not driving and since this would apply to everyone, I would expect customers and other agents to understand any delays in getting back to them.
Eventually we would return to the befores of cellphones but habits are very hard to break and we have become what I refer to as an INSTANT ON society. There will be alot of pulling off to the side of the road in our area and that in itself may cause accidents as well. A double edged sword....
The problem is, there are too many drivers without good judgement. That's when the law steps in. I've often wondered how many accidents have been caused by people eating while driving. Really, we should be driving when driving, that's it - no calling, texting, writing, reading, eating, drinking smoking, or other uses of the hands. Pull over if you need to make a call. Simple as that.
Here in Alberta Canada, the distracted driving law is in effect. Bluetooth/speaker phone while driving is OK. I still see people driving with the phone stuck to their ear so maybe some people are "exempt" from the rules LOL. It's a pain and I get a lot less done while driving!!
That's crazy. I'm always on the phone. What about Bluetooth on the car. Good luck
I see it all the time. . is like I'm surrounded by drunk drivers all the time while in traffic. .
Going side to side and when I pass them to avoid. .I always see someone with a cell phone in their hand. .
All the phone calls made by real estate agents in the US are not necessary as exchange for someone losing a daughter or a son because of a text or a phone call. .
The spill of hot coffee I have heard has caused many an accident! And have you ever driven on the expressway while the car beside you is either shaving or putting on mascara? I've seen both more than once or twice on the SouthEast Expressway in Massachusetts, unreal!
How true Fernando! There is no price to put on the value of a loved one being injured or killed by someone's inattention.
Our brains are not configured to do two things at once successfully. If you are engaged in a telephone conversation while driving - the attention is not on the driving as can be evidenced when I am behind someone who is on the phone. Texting is just plain dumb while driving. Many people have been killed because of this and it is not always the textor but someone they hit while texting. What can be so important it can't wait. We all survived before cell phones.
MaryBeth, Safety first. When you're driving a 5,000 pound weapon, from the pedestrians point of view, nothing should distract the driver. Now in reality we know everything distracts the driver to some degree but I think some distractions can be avoided. I think Canada has the best solution.
