Toy Bears in the Emergency Room
The Lambda Chapter of Theta Chi Epsilon is engaged with numerous charitable endeavors throughout the year, from knitting hats for premature babies to sewing toy bears for children in the emergency room.
This chapter is recognized for its year round volunteerism, and not just around the holidays.
The group also raises money throughout the year to donate cash to nonprofits such as the Union Rescue Mission and Smile Train, a charity that provides cleft palate surgery.
For more than two decades, the chapter has created handmade favors for Meals On Wheels recipients at the Simi Valley Senior Center.
"They are small topical items made from construction paper, felt, sequins, ribbons, cloth, wiggly eyes we make rabbits for Easter, Santas for Christmas, turkeys for Thanksgiving,"
Some enjoy making toy bears the most. "When kids come into the emergency room, they're scared; the bears are really good for the kids, and it only takes a couple hours to make one bear."
