Congratulations and thank you for voting!!! Our voters, obviously, looked past their pocketbooks and looked at our future yesterday. Mecklenburg County overwhelmingly approved the school bonds package totalling over half a billion dollars. Now, we can look for the twelve new schools that are planned for the county! Lord knows, with the growth of our area, we will welcome the new schools.
Mecklenburg residents also approved keeping the transit tax. This is fantastic news for the future of Charlotte and the surrounding areas. With the rate of growth that Charlotte has been experiencing, mass transportation becomes more and more important. Keeping this transit tax allows our light rail system to continue to develop, allows our bus system to to continue to grow, and provides for road improvement projects (i.e., widening I-77 and Providence Road, etc.).
Folks who live here know that two of our perks are the accessibility of fantastic public schools and the ability to get from one side of the city to the other in under an hour (in many cases a half hour).
We need, now, to pray for Mayor Pat McCrory, who was re-elected yesterday for a seventh term, and his council to continue their focus on these important issues. We need to pray they have the guidance they need to stay on track with promises made. Congratulations Charlotte!
Virginia,
Good news on the school bonds!
And, did you note that the real estate transfer tax was defeated anywhere it was on the ballot?
