139 Comments on Why Won’t The Media Report The Good News?!
This is exactly why we all need to become the online expert for our local markets. Even when the media does report, it's often a 30-second TV story or a broad national article with no application to specific markets. We need to be the voice for what it happening in our own back yards.
I agree with you 100% but bad news sells newspapers.
good news is not news. Even if the prices were falling the good news is that it is a great time to buy, but they will not say that.
As a news reporter told me once in answer to the same type question............"Blood Sells!"
Move to Hawaii... the local news media report on GOOD NEWS on a daily basis! Must be the Aloha spirit!
Yes...the media is a culprit for a portion of the problem.
Great post....keep the truth >> Amen!
On rare occasion they do..like the gold Krugerrands in PA.
Good post, thanks for sharing it.
Like the old saying goes: Happiness is watching your neighbor fall off the roof. I have some famous campaign illustrations back during the early years of Winston Churchill. The same things noted then are still happening today. Nothing changes unless you love Reality TV...
I think the demise of truly local news in print, radio and TV is at least partially to blame. Real Estate is a prime example of an item that is truly local. The opening of a small business employing 50 or so employees can have a large impact on real restate in a small community and not even be a blip in the national scene.
In fairness almost no one except my family is concerned with the fact that our house did not collapse last night, I wasn't caught after shooting a half dozen people, or not indicted for child molestation. The normal isn't news and provides us with little information useful in preventing future occurrences.
Hi Nathan, Because negative news sell. Even if it is good news the subtitle usually carries bad news.
it is true what Bob (above) says - negative news sells - that is why we have in our town the "Good News" newspaper which has only "positive news".
Sin sells. Sex sells. Nasty sells. Bad News sells. Corruption sells. Naughty sells ... etc.
Care Bears News has not made it to the airwaves yet. Still gotta go to church or your Bible for that. We have to make it count here. The real voice of the real people.
Here's a great idea: Don't listen to the news. If it's bad enough, someone will tell you.
Keep Smilin n Merry Christmas
Superb post. The media's negitivity has not only perpetrated the situation, in some cases it has CAUSED it. "If it's written, it's got to be true." there are so many proverbs about "bad news travels with nine-league boots" and so on. It speaks (not well) of human nature in our fascination with catastrophe. Thanks for a great post.
Nathan, great post, I try to keep the news off most days because it is so negative it causes me to have a headache....killings, mass murders, suicide/murder, suicide bombings, drive by shootings, high unemployment rate, plants closing and moving to China. sexual harassment, mistress confesses to 13 year casual affair, more foreclosures on the horizon. shadow inventory. The bad news bombardment is never ending!
Happy Holidays!
Nate: It's boring that's why. They seem to like using the doom & gloom adjectives they've gotten so accustomed to. You could always write the reporters at your station & see what they say?
I actually emailed a CBS local reporter once & he emailed me right back with a reply. I was shocked but it was nice that he acknowledge my opinion at least.
We should be hearing about any recoveries very soon as this news will be necessary toreport in the efforts to re elect Barry Sorento (aka Obama). The mainstream media doesn't have much to hang their hats on and this information will certainly be supportive of their collective efforts.
Nathan, GGGRREAT QUESTION - If it's on TV, Gloom, Doom & Tragedy equals ratings.
Today's news.....NAR [National Association of Realtors] has gotten it wrong, the numbers were much worse than our Governing Body reported. Imagine that?
The bottom line is the same, it's gotten just a little bit better [a little bit] but the overall devastation was 14% worse than NAR reported and the new numbers came out today. ALL the TV stations are quick to report it.
Fact is - it's time to buckle down for ALL of us. Reassess our lifestyles and go into financial protection mode.
Don't need it, sell it. Use coupons, cut spending, postpone buying things that are not absolutely a necessity right now.
Rate and revise our spending habits using the 'Perk' system for our monthly expenses, P-E-R-K, Postpone, Eliminate, Reduce & Keep - analyze, plan, strategize. Have a plan and have 12 months of cash on hand, to get through this hard time.
This too will pass but we need to have a plan and work our plan.
Best Wishes to you!
This is so Right On....the media we have today is skewed to whatever the agenda is of their bosses. Recovery....in real estate ir in general might make it look like Obama is doing his job and the can't have that!! Propaganda at its finest.
Hi there Bug...
Loving the new blog header. Very nice :)
TLW...ROAR!
well they can keep on with the negative news..I haven't watched news for years exactly because there is NEVER any good news. WIsh more would do as I have done they might veentually get the message. I have enuff drama just trying to live in this world from day to day, sure as heck don't wanna hear about any more of it! Let the depressed and the war mongers have it..
