Benjamin Franklin is credited with the saying, "an Ounce of Prevention is worth Pound of Cure".
Well,....when it comes to preventing plumbing and drain problems, below are 5 Tips to Avoid Plumbing and Drain Headaches Honolulu OAHU,that can save you quite a bit of pain and expense.
1. Don't let that little car get away. Keep small objects and toys away from your toilet. A tenant called that her toilet was backing up. Unknown at the time, the bath drain strainer had fallen off the sink and went into the toilet. Long story, short and $750 later, a new toilet had to be installed, because the strainer was up inside the elbow and couldn't be removed and the drain problem resolved. The tenant had to pay.
2. Planning ahead. It's good to keep a 25' Auger and an old fashioned plunger, in order to keep the drains flowing freely on a regular basis. There are also other products to use to keep your drains in tip-top condition. Check with your local hardware store.
3. Keep your disposer happy. Trying to grind chicken bones is a sure way to clog the lines, DON'T. If you have left over grease or oil, bag, gag or recycle it, but NOT in the drain. This can eventually impede the machinery from doing its job. Potato, carrot, celery, banana peels shouldn't go in there. Run cold water only with food products and turn the disposer off, then turn off the water after running for several seconds in order to flush things out.
4. Do it naturally. Does the Drain have bad breath? You can put products, powders, lye, acid, and bleach down your drain that will get rid of smells, but they might damage your pipes. How about being environmental friendly and use your left over lemon or lime peels. Put a piece or two in the grinder and you'll have a citrus fresh smell instantly.

5. A final Eco Friendly way. You can try plain old boiling water and a cup of Baking Soda for slow drains. A pot of boiling water (6 cups). Follow this with one or more cups, up to 1 gallon of vinegar. Another pot of boiling water. Then, a plunger. Let it FLOW!
