December Season of Celebration: Show your culinary skills as a Guest Chef in Oakland CA

Fancy yourself as a gourmet chef? Looking for a venue to prove it?

Now’s your chance to be a chef at the Guest Chef in Oakland CA at 5337 College Ave.

My Oakland/Alameda Magazine sale rep, Paul Skrentny is a guest chef December 12-31, 2011 during which he will cook a variety of paellas and “some really delectable small plates, salads and soups. Chefs

Seems like a fabulous way to have a unique dining experience during the holidays.

Patronize a new local business.

Support the local economy.

And launch someone's new career as a chef.

This is like a “Top Chef” kind  of place. It’s a new concept ---the chefs apply to be the guest chef for two weeks. All they need to bring are ingredients and their passion. They are provided the space, the equipment, the stage, and everything else. Profits are split 50-50 between the restaurant and the chef.  It may not be a huge money-maker (yet), but it could be the venue that chefs would want to use as their springboard to getting the experience, the exposure, and their own restaurant.

According to their website www.TheGuestChef.net, Guest Chef “provides an entree into the restaurant business while providing a unique dining experience.

  • They are looking for cooks who want a public venue for their creations
  • They provide a restaurant with a commercial kitchen and dining area
  • They provide all the basic cooking utensils, pots and pans and serving equipment
  • They provide promotion through the web and social media.
  • The chefs need only bring the food, their talent, and  their enthusiasm

If the chef attracts a following they will invite the chef back for a return engagement.

If the chef is a sensation there are other locations where they can provide a permanent outlet for his cooking

The chef risks only his ego and the price of the groceries.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I watch the Iron Chef, Master Chef, Top Chef series. Thank goodness, they are at different times of the year.

Pacita, This would be an amazing experience.  Very creative and forward thinking.  It's like bringing the concept of "reality T.V." locally. It present an opportunity for great exposure for the restaurant and the guest chef!

Sandy -- I am going to check this out, especially since I know the chef

Maria -- it's the only one of its kind in the area

Sally and David --- I love paella, and looks like the chef is cooking a variety (i remember ordering Paella Negro in Spain, and that was scrumptious!)

John --- paella, too?

Kathleen --- maybe they have something like this in San Jose?

Peggy

We're going there with friends on either Wednesday or Thursday. Maybe you should go and see for yourself.

Good luck...maybe this is the right venue for you.

Glad you can make it to our Bay Area Meet Up last Tuesday. It was so good to see  you.
