Owch .. driving in and around Houston's Med Center traffic is not for sissies!
When I first came to Houston from the East Coast (NJ) it was culture shock to have cashiers greet you like they know you ..."How you doin' sugah, are you havin' a good day?" I actually looked behind me to see who she was talking to. Yes! If its Houston, or Texas, or Southern friendliness .. it's quite welcome -- and as you describe can really be a balm to your spirit on a busy day, able to lift downtroddens spirits for sure. Crossing my fingers for you that your test results go well.
Yes, nothing like an unsolicited kind word to make us feel better.
(By the way, I'm sure you look fabulous today)
Thanks my friends. I hope to be able to pass along a kind word as well in order to uplift a person. Judith, yeah another Houstonian. I will have to seek you out! Thanks for the sweet sentiments about the tests. Have to be down there again this afternoon so one more day of this! Yikes. Have a great day.
Well said, Paula. I think I will make a conscience effort to do this today.
Good morning Paula. What a terrific reminder of a very important thing: kindness. I hope your tests are good and that you the best holidays. Suggested.
And by the way, Paula, I think you look cute every day that I see your photo here in the rain.
You guys are going to make me cry. Thanks so very much for all of the kindness! I love you all and feel so fortunate to have some of my best friends as Active Rain friends. No matter what is going on in life, the steadiness of the Active Rain friends is always a comfort in my life. Love to you all.
Thanks for the reminder. Sometimes I forget to bless someone like that.
Hey Mike. Hope you are doing well my friend. Have a very Merry Christmas and enjoy your time with your children. Love seeing pictures of them when you post them. They are a joy for sure. Stay warm and have fun enjoying all of the Christmas festivities.
Excellent reminder for all of us to share some kind words at every opportunity. Sometimes, the other person just needs a big smile or a nice thought to change the course of events.
By the way, you are cute every day!
Best wishes to all for a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Well I am so glad I came across this post. We meet at least 20 people a day, do we want to leave them better or worse for the meeting.
Hey, Paula!
I included this post in Last Week's Favorites. Have a great Sunday!
It is amazing how the simplest kind words can make such a big difference. I'm so glad this person cheered up your day. I hope I can remember to pass on kind words whenever I can.

Paula,
The power of words is so important. Our oldest recently started driving and we've gotten some wonderful compliments about him and his driving. I make sure to share these with him, as I know as a teenager, sometimes you just hear the bad.
As well, it's made me think again how important it is to share the kind words and what an impact it can have, so I am trying to do even more of this these days!
All the best, Michelle
Paula, What a wonderful reminder. A few choice words can make such a difference in others. BTW you are really cute!
Thanks to Pat for having this post in Last weeks favorites.
Have a fabulous week.
Margaret
Paula, you are right on target telling this story from the heart. What is amazing is the Whole Foods cashier made a difference by being herself and reached out to you. Imagine how many strangers each of good make feel "good" even with a smile. Bravo on this post and thank you for making a difference here. Emily
What a great post, Paula, and a great reminder to all of us. A smile goes a loooong way, but the kind words -- they're the icing on the cake.
Hi Paula - Thanks for the reminder! We all have an opportunity to make or break someone's day--we should all choose to make it like the check-out person did.
HI Paula - When I mentored young entrepreneurs, I found that their biggest problem was speaking to strangers. So I assigned them homework: Say hello to at least three strangers a day and give a compliement to at least one of them. And it must be a genuine compliment.
It was difficult for them at first, but soon they were calling me to report having met some wonderful people, simply by complimenting them on an article of clothing or their hair, or something. It is gratifying to the one giving the compliment too - that smile received in return can light up everyone's day!
Sometimes just a few kind words can have a great impact as you said. Spread the cheer! Say something nice to someone today just because you can.
