9 Comments on Time Magazine's Person of the Year: The Protester.
I didn't follow many of the protests, but hopefully they did some good for our country! The recognition given by Time should help as well. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Suzanne,
Thanks for this intriguing post. Last year, I was mad that Time did not nominate Steve Jobs last year, because we truly saw him as an iconic figure of our times, in that he transformed so much in our lives and the internet at large.
Now back to your question...like you we don't watch news on TV or even read the old fashioned newspapers, we do subscribe to the Wall Street Journal on line and we select what we want to read (mostly marketing) and the personal journal, which is always a delight...but I digressed,
I like this nomination, because I think it is time to speak up, and the Whoppressed are sending us a message to also become aware of all the things that are happening in our country, that should be fixed, such as everyone getting the same health care that the Congress gets. We elect these people, and now, they have special privileges, and we thought they are working for us? Or why do they get away with "insider trading" legal for them and you and I would go to jail?
OOPS, I am way over 25 words, but thanks for the opportunity to rant and rave, LOL
PS, when you create a link, be sure to direct it to a new page, so that your post stays up rather than be replaced by the link. A
Thanks, A. Normally I do do that. But, I was in a hurry. Ooops. Always proofread.
To everyone:
The Protester....while our country has had its share, and rightly so, in my humble opinion, I believe that we should remember that we are not the world....and. the Protester they are deeming worthy might be in Libya, Tunisia, Egypt or anywhere that tyranny still lives....and it lives many, many places and in many, many times.
Suzanne,
Naming "The Protestor" as the person of the year is a cop out by a magazine whose better days are far in the past.
Rich
Hopefully they will bring the change they seek and make things better than they are now. Not that I agree with all of it, but it needs to be said here and it was needed in the Middle East for the salvation of the people from the cruel dictators.
Richard, I agree. The magazine itself is kaput (or caput, depending on your Yiddish). But, the protesters have had a huge impact on governments this year, and in the past few years. And, I am just trying to start a dialogue. I so appreciate your input.
I would have named the Navy Seals but I agree that the Times has long lived it's usefulness.
I think the Navy Seals did an extraordinary job, not just this time but several times in the past. Amazing.
Can't help you here. I have never read Time and as far as person of the year, I heard that Aaron Rogers was in the running. For Person of the Year?
