What Does Acid Rain Have to Do With Real Estate?: A Newbie's Advice For Newbies

Reblogger

I had to re-blog Carie's post because I too have been given that Newbie Label. The question I'm still wondering is how long you stay a newbie. Let's face it there is the old stuff to learn and then the ever increasing new stuff. My only advice for myself is concentrate on one thing for a few days and slowly add to it. However, I do like the clicking thing...Thanks again to Carie, Patricia, and Kristin for their contribution to this post.

BlocksI've sure come a long way since uttering those words!  You see, I knew absolutely nothing about ActiveRain until I heard of its existence at a networking luncheon.  But, once I understood the difference between AcidRain and ActiveRain, I was on my way!  Last week, I celebrated my 60-day anniversary on ActiveRain and as I reflect back on this awesome two-month journey, here's an account of what has helped me most to enhance my ActiveRain Newbie experience.

ClickCLICK ON EVERYTHING IN SIGHT

Start clicking like crazy!  Initially, I found the ActiveRain University tab and after taking the orientation class and watching a couple of tutorials, I went everywhere -- blogs, profiles, more blogs, contests, statistics, a list of all the states in the US -- basically anything that resembled a link.  I was overwhelmed!  Yet, just like pulling off a Bandaid, the anticipation and fear of the unknown is the worst part.  Go for it!  It won’t hurt for very long and you won't have to look back!

TAKE AS MUCH NEWBIE ADVICE AS YOU CAN GET

Remember, everyone started out at Square #1, so everybody here has been in our shoes before.  They all know the agony and ecstasy of being an ActiveRain Newbie.  Luckily, many seasoned Rainmakers have written posts which illustrate valuable steps for getting started, blogging, Newbie etiquette, you name it!  Most recently, I read a blog by Patricia Kennedy that was chock full of great ideas.  It's been reblogged a few times already, but in case you missed it, check it out here.  P.S. I learned how to do this on ActiveRain :)  And, for us Newbies, blogging can be scary!  However, stumbling through the blogging process doesn't have to be so nervewracking.  Kristin Moran recently wrote a nice blog about the stress of embarking on your blogging maiden voyage so check it out here.  Oh ... and the search feature at the top of the page is my new BFF!

EnvelopeREACH OUT AND TOUCH SOMEONE

Or, at least send them a message.  I’ve written messages to several ActiveRain members (you guys know who you are -- thank you!) requesting feedback and guidance after reading their blogs and profiles.  I'm sure they remember how it felt to be the new kid on the block, and their willingness to share their experiences and expertise was very encouraging.  Not to mention the emails I've written directly to ActiveRain about quirky things I didn't quite understand (Hey gang in Technical Support, how's it going?)  And last night, I went to my local ActiveRain Meetup where I met some great folks who also offered valuable Newbie advice.  So basically, ev
eryone I have reached out to here has been extremely helpful and supportive.  I'm grateful for the assistance I’ve received and hope to pay it forward someday as an ActiveRain Veteran.

FunOH YEAH ... THERE'S ALSO STUFF ABOUT REAL ESTATE

Undoubtedly, there is a wealth of information here pertaining to the real estate industry -- working with buyers and sellers, how to generate more leads, social media marketing, staging, and insightful ways to reach more clients and grow your business, just to name a few.  However, there seems to be no shortage of valuable information on a wide variety of other interesting topics as well.  Plus, a network of
amazing people and the fortunate opportunity to connect with them.  So, whatever the reasons for being here -- there is something for everyone.  Just Get Out In The Rain ... and don't forget to have some fun!
