BH Electrics is a company committed to building electric cars in the Lancaster area. Brandon Hollinger, the owner, wants to get the word out to the general public about the opportunity which electric cars offer consumers.

Mazda Miata electric car conversion Brandon is a remarkable guy. He is a musician and good one at that who built an electric car through researching it on the internet. He was inspired after watching the documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? This inspired him to learn more and resulted in converting a Saab from gas to electric. He has also converted a Mazda Miata to electric.

Hollinger recently won a contest promoting electric cars and was given $20,000 worth a electrical car parts. He plans to build an electric taxi for Lancaster out of a 1971 Austin FX4. I observed the motor and converter at his shop this past Friday. BH Electrics, though a small start up company, is a testimony to human ingenuity and a spirit which cannot be quelched by misuse of power or greed.

Love the pictures of the electric motor as it is so clean and neat. We have hook-ups at our local malls for the cars to plug into when they are shopping. I think maybe this is the wave of the future. Probably not my lifetime but my children's.

Gabe, these kinds of businesses really are the engine of our economy. This is really the wave of the future.

Roy, I am considering it. I would actually like to consider a Nissan Leaf. I have never purchased a new car and that is what keeps me from doing it. However, I learned from Brandon, this car really will last a long, long time probably decades.

Kristin, I actually think this may come sooner than we think. If they can get the range to about 300 miles, I think more and more people will consider this a viable form of daily transportation. Imagine, no fumes, no oil changes, little to no maintenance. I hope I see this transformation more quickly, but who knows.

It is developing Steve. Brandon's car can do 80-100 miles. He expects it to be 300 in the future. The infrastructure needs to be built as well. PA turnpike just announced a plan to install charging stations along the turnpike. As this begins to occur, it will help transform our minds.

Cal - Charging stations along the turnpike!! ..... a little more time would be required to "fill er up" than the old conventional gas or diesel fuel tanks currently take

Kathy, actually not much more time. They will be powerful enough to do it in about 10 minutes. Fill up may take about 5-6 minutes now. One will not want to use this kind of charge on a regular basis or it will hurt the life of your batteries.
