After almost 13 years in the Colorado Springs real estate market, I can safely say that a lender can be the life blood of a successful real estate transaction. Good lender, good transaction. Bad lender...you know. Anyway, I've been thinking, as I urged my favorite local lender to join Active Rain...what makes a great lender, from a real estate agent's perspective. What makes MY favorite lender the one I like to work with and feel confident referring my clients to? Here's what I have come up with. Of course, there's a lot more to it, but these basics come immediately to mind:
MY favorite lender, (though I work with many), has a tool that enables clients to "google earth" prospective properties before they take the time to drive by.
-The Lender's availability for pre-qualification and to answer client's questions as they arise. A great lender is accessible throughout the transaction. A poor lender is hard to reach and vague in answering questions.
-Local underwriting. Can't say enough about this. If there's an issue, we want to know right away, right guys?
-The Lender's advocacy of your service as a professional. A good team is what you should be.
-Versatility of programs offered and resources to buyer tools.
-Great follow up for those not quite ready to purchase.
-"Double teaming" on the follow up for those that are in the middle of the buying process right now.
-Continued follow up after the transaction has closed.
-Personal touches...remembering you for special events, EVEN when things are slow.
What are your favorite lender qualities?
I agree with all of your remarks, esp. personnal touches and great follow up. My in house lender had me join ActiveRain, and I am so glad he did!! Gerry Stephens with Wells Fargo is an exceptional lender, follows through and contacts me ASAP.
