As an Agent, you know your new buyer is going to grill you. Some questions you can answer; others you cannot, even if you want to, for legal reasons. If you're a buyer, I know that bugs you sometimes. You have questions like these:
- What's happening with interest rates?
- I want to do my homework before I talk to a loan officer. What is a FICO score?
- How much could my credit score impact the cost of my loan?
- I'm a visual person. Can we look at historic interest rate trends in a graph?
Here's a very useful site. It's Mortgage-X.com Bookmark it. It's a resource for Agents and Buyers alike. As a loan officer in Tucson, Arizona, I recommend the site to every client who darkens my door. Sure, the site is advertising other loan officers and lenders, but they're not competition. I've long held the opinion that being open and forthright is a strong attractant in business. It's an uncommon practice, especially in lending.
It's so uncommon, in fact, that I find it strengthens my business relationships and provides an immediate common ground of trust. Money is not a commodity, as the credit crunch in subprime has plainly illustrated. Best rate / No credit? No problem! / No cost loan! scenarios have led to misery for tens of thousands of borrowers, and to bankruptcy for hundreds of mortgage companies.
Check out the site. Find an hour when you aren't rushed. You'll find a tremendous amount of information that's easy to use. You might want to create a Mortgage-X folder in your favorites, and then bookmark pages from the library in that folder.
Oh, and if you're a new Loan Officer? Spend an hour a day here. It's got more information than your company's training program! You'll look like a pro!
And that's the real estate opinion of this Tucson, Arizona mortgage lender

Mike, thanks for the info and for the site recommendation. I've bookmarked your post so that I don't forget to do what you suggest.
Personally I use the 8 ball. You know, the one you shake while asking a question and then look for the answer in the little window.
