December's Season of Celebrations and Sharing - St. Mary's Church
St. Mary's Parish in Gilroy has an outreach program for the poor and homeless. St. Joseph Center prepares and feeds those who are in need three times a week and collect food donations. This morning, at Serra's Cottage, they opened the doors at 9:00 am to all in need who were in line awaiting their turn to shop for free. There were more than enough volunteers helping customers to collect their free groceries which were donated.
The parish has also been collecting clothing and toys and will distribute them later this week.
Other Charities on our city worthy of mention is the Armory, offering shelter to the homeless from November 28 to March 31 and open from 6 pm to 6 am. The Armory is located at 8490 Wren Avenue in Gilroy.
The Compassion Center is located on Monterey Road in Gilroy. The center is staffed by volunteers and offers food, shelter, free clothing and support to those in need. The center is still looking for more volunteers and clothing donations.
