Winter Storm Forces Closure of I-40 & I-25

The current winter storm blanketed the entire state of New Mexico.  From Raton to Roswell, Los Alamos to Las Cruces, and all points between...nobody is spared from the fury of this storm.  As it carves its path through the state it is leaving a blanket of heavy, wet snow, the kind that sticks to the ground and causes havoc on the interstate highways.

State and Local Government officials are not taking any chances they have closed both  I-40 and I-25, as reported in KOB TV:

The New Mexico Department of Transportation closed down I-25 north of Santa Fe to Raton Monday afternoon.

New Mexico State Police shut down eastbound I-40 from Louisiana Boulevard in Albuquerque all the way to the Texas state line because of dangerous road conditions. Officials also closed eastbound I-40 between Moriarty and Santa Rosa.

Winter has really jumped into the holiday season with both feet.  A little snow is very nice and beautiful to see around Christmas but the heavy winter storm is no fun when it closes the highways.  Stay safe out there.

The Western States have been having some cold and snowy weather. A year ago today we had 32" of the white stuff on the ground followed by another 28" a week later just after Christmas here in the Hamptons on Eastern Long Island in New York. This year we had our first sighting of snow on October 28 - before our first frost ! But the weather has been unseasonally warm overall since then. This evening when I was in Times Square in NYC it was 58 degrees. Gorgeous ! Be safe out west !

A white Christmas sounds romantic, but only when the grass and trees are white and the roads and sidewalks are clear. This is severe. Stay safe, may all your shopping be complete. HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Doug you are so right...this storm is resosible for at least 4 lives.  A friend of mine took his famy to watch the dever/New Eglad game on Sunday...on his way back he got caught in what he described as the worst drivig coditioc he had ever seen ...4 Semi's jacknifed, one rolled over.  Several other major accidents with nobody to help, except other motorists.Thak you Doug

Ed: Thank you for your very thoughtful comment.  Most of my family live in the Northest.  My two sos live in Massachusetts.  Other members of my extended family live in Conn. New York. and DC.  I have a keen interest in what's going on thein the NE.  Enjoy the gorgeous weather while you can over there in Long Island.

Joseph: I agree with you 100%.  It was an aweful one. Today, the roads in Albuquerque were all clear.

Dan: From All Accounts...New Mexico is now a Skier's Paradise. Indeed, all of te Skii Areas received an ample amount of snow.

Hi Renee:  Thanks for stopping by.  I would love to make one for you, but there is no more snow here in Albuquerque

C Lloyd,

I was making dinner, wrapping presents finishing putting the touches on the tree, with the national news on and I heard about the storm and how it affected NM. I thought of you and am glad to know you are safe! I always keep out for NM as I used to live there! Take care my friend!

Hi Yolanda:

Thank you.

Good News: As it turned out Albuquerque was spared...it was melted by the followingday.  The problem was areas outside of Albuquerque.

Bad News: Anther storm is heading towards us again.  By tomorrow night we will be getting pounded again
