2011 December Blogging Challenge: Turns Out We do ALOT More Than Just Real Estate

Yesterday I got a call from New York, from a past client who bought a home here in La Quinta last summer.  She and her husband actually came to the desert in mid-July and braved the hottest month to find their perfect desert winter getaway!  

Their plans changed due to the illness of a close friend-- and they have yet to make it back out to their lovely winter home.  Somehow his mail was being forwarded to La Quinta, while her mail was still being delivered to New York.  She called to ask me to go by and see if he had any mail there... and of course he did.

So today I called and we went through the mail, piece by piece, to see if there was anything that was urgent and needed to be paid or tended to.  Nothing urgent was found-- but now they have peace of mind... knowing that their mail is safe and taken care of.

We are asked to wear many hats in this business... but our most important duty is to CARE about our clients.

Hi Kathy,

" CARE about our clients..." very well said my friend, imho it speaks volumes about you.

That's also the best advice I ever received from my very first mentor, my first r.e. class, even before I was licensed. He said "take care of the people & they will take care of you..." he was right, it's kept me in business for decades!

Kathy...I tell all of my clients, "now that we have closed, our relationship is NOT over." Call me if you ever need anything.

I was just told by my Broker that I should not have ANY client files that are more than 3 years old. We are only required to keep files that long, and we should destroy everything else. WHAT? I have the MLS printouts scanned and saved of the homes or condos we looked at.  All kinds of stuff!

I often check mail, or any such thing for my clients. Find them contractors after the fact to do work, etc.

I thought all this WAS part of our job!

Happy Holidays! I've not been to the desert for years and years...but hope to meet you when I come.

And if only I would of stuck with golf when I lived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, but that is another story!

Kathy,

You provided a very valuable and kind service by doing this for your client.  She knew that she could trust her mail to you which says a lot because many pieces of mail are confidential information.
