YouTube Made Changes To Your Channels and Video Page
I am amazed at the power of YouTube and have made video creation (and posting on YouTube, of course!) one of my top "to dos" for 2012. All of my listings will have at least one video, real estate advice will be available, and hopefully lots of rave reviews from my home buyer and seller clients!
Even if you aren't in real estate, you may be interested to learn about all of the recent changes and enhancements on YouTube. One of my favorite bloggers on ActiveRain did a fantastic job of summarizing all of the updates...
[Thanks Katerina!]
YouTube made changes to your channels and video page.
When was the last time you visited your own YouTube channel? In case it has been a while you may not recogize the your channel when you go back to see it.
There are some minor changes as well as major changes. Due to these changes we are adding YouTube tasks to do to our online marketing plan for 2012. We went through all the changes and made a list of which items will be a priority for us to tackle over the next year.
Did you know that over 150 Years of Videos are watched every day on Facebook???? WOW!!! My source is YouTube for these and more facts:
- Over 3 Billion videos are viewed on YouTube each day.
- 48 hours of video are uploaded every minute. That is 8 years of content being uploaded every single day.
- YouTube's demographic is 18- 54 years old.
If that does not motivate you to make the changes you need to your YouTube profile and channel, I don't know what will.
The biggest change was that YouTube got rid of the old look and feel and design of everyone's page. The entire system is now like a Facebook page with your videos running down the center of the page and your "wall" is now called the "feed".
YouTube got rid of "friends". Now everyone is a subscriber, not a friend. The friend thing was a bit confusing anyways so we are glad it is gone.
The biggest change is that no longer is YouTube featuring on the home page the current popular and trending videos. I think they are doing this because they want to eventually replace television stations altogether. They want to be that replacement. They also want to make YouTube more user centric. So now YouTube will suggest videos for you based on what you have liked.
Your channel page will need to be updated. I am not going to go into all of my action steps that we are taking but we are doing the basics also:
Adding a new background image if you have anything customized in on your channel page. I just had one of the choices YouTube gave me but that choice is no longer available.
- Upload your avatar.
- Choose your Featured Video.
- Choose your style.
- Work on your playlists. Ours are #1 on YouTube and show up in Google organic SERPS.
- We also have an SEO ninja list of things to do with our channel page and our playlists this next year.
Last but not least- I have said this before and I will say it again- be careful if you are using your YouTube channel to just post listings, especially if they look like advertisments. They are heavily going after spammy looking accounts. If you are not adding value you may just find yourself on the outs with YouTube.
