One of the benefits to being a professional real estate appraiser is that you get to meet a lot of interesting people and those people know an awful lot about a lot of things.
Today, during a pre-listing appraisal in the South Loop (south of Chicago downtown), the client mentioned Starbuck's test-market in Chicago for 'adult-beverages' at some of the busier locations.
From what I've seen and been told, the North Avenue location is one of the busiest. It is located at North Avenue and Wells Street, in Chicago, in the Old Town neighborhood and just south of Lincoln Park. That Starbucks is considered by many to be the mecca in the city due to its diverse clientele, large seating capacity, great location and near a lot of local retail establishments and eateries (not to mention a few places to get a cocktail).
Additionally, that North Avenue Starbucks is a 24 hour location. Yes, you can get your java flowing 24 hours a day. Imagine the scene in the near future, when you can get your libations 24 hours a day no matter what drink you call out. Granted, the 'adult beverage' category would be governed by local ordinances for service times.
So, think about it...you live in the area, you are going to meet for a date, you stop by Starbucks mid-afternoon to get a little boost... you meet your date at the 'coffee shop' aka North Ave Starbucks, have a latte..things are progressing and you return to the drink counter for some 'leaded coffee' and launch your evening with a different kind of java-infused lubrication, or even a local Chicago-version of coffee-flavored barley-malt beverage...and then the evening goes so well, that some time after you midnight, you possibly return to the counter for some java sans-booze....
Sure seems like this 24 hour Starbucks could get a lot busier...granted it is in a high density urban location which helps.
Time (and dating results) will tell.
