Bum Bums.
Out of the mouths of babes. In our family, we have a new name for a famous lingerie store. My daughter-in-law was shopping with my two year old grandson this week when he spotted a Victoria's Secret store. He immediately tugged on his mom's hand and asked to go to the "bum bum" store.
Apparently, since his name for his backside is "bum bum," it's an innocent observation - and quite accurate to some degree. Although, I'm certain, as he gets older, he'll notice the upper part of the store manniquen's attire as well. But for now, he giggled with surprise when he noticed all the ladies showing off their bum bums.
Beer.
At a recent annual dinner party we exchanged gifts, as is the tradition. The women generally get one another a special Christmas ornament, decorative item or a unique kitchen gadget. The men often exchange food and beer. Not just any beer, but brews with fun and festive names.
For example, my husband has given, and received, beers called "Mad Elf," "Yellow Snow," and "Jack Frost." However, this year, he was given one with my new "favorite name" for a holiday beer. It's called "Nice Rack," and it's an IPA made by Southern Oregon Brewing. (Note the label - what were you thinking?)
Believe!
Do you believe in Santa? Recently at a local UPS store, the customers were lined up with packages and mailers waiting their turn at the counter. The mood was sour. When it was my turn, the store's proprietor offered me cookies and coffee. He then slowly turned to face the frowning crowd, "All of you are welcome to cookies and coffee." He then nodded toward a small stand in the back of the store.
One guy, a thirty something who had been directly behind me in line, said excitedly, but with perfect campy drama, "He really is Santa." I added, "And his beard's real too!" You see, the man who runs the store looks a lot like Santa, sans the costume. He has a round jolly face, a button nose, a bit of belly and white hair and beard. His eyes even twinkle when he appears merry.
Needless to say, everyone waiting in line started to giggle and the mood transformed before our very eyes. Suddenly, the once grumpy line of people were happy - heck, they were festive. They smiled and talked and even offered to open the door for one another. Is the local UPS store run by Santa? I can't answer that question with any degree of certainty. But, I do know, whoever he is, helped to create a moment of magic.
