December 2011: ActiveRain Software Platform Upgrade
Hooray. Thank YOU ActiveRain and Merry Christmas.
Does this mean testers are done? I am on:
http://beta.activerain.com/action/blogs_admin/reblogging_new/2659099 now.
I turned in two things... with screen shots... I can not remember what they were. The most devastating thing was a blog post I had started b4 using the beta and then updated on the beta version, I could see the orginal unfinished version on my laptop so I deleted it. That deleted the published version. There were no screen shots to turn in. Not much to do but put the post together again. I had the photos saved. Most of the post was on Notepad so it was NOT a total loss.
Don't worry.... be happy that should not happen on the new upgraded, spiffy, ActiveRain...you won't be going between the two. It's going to be a Happy New Year here with things working more smoothly.....
As many of you know, we have been working feverishly to update the software platform underlying ActiveRain (called Ruby on Rails) to a newer version (called Rails 2.3.14). ActiveRain had not been updated for 5 years previously.
Today, we made the shift to Rails 2.3.14. So now it should be much easier for us to make changes and develop new features on ActiveRain. We should see greater stability as well.
The ActiveRain community should not see any changes to ActiveRain. The goal was to update the underlying software platform and not make any visible changes to ActiveRain.
BUT, if you experience any issues with ActiveRain, please post the issue here in the comments. We are having our software developers monitor the comments on this blog post. As we come across issues, we will quickly dive in and try to fix them as they appear.
Thanks everyone!
