A Fall Evening itan Monroe Square

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Preferred Properties Coastal Realty, Inc.

Last Thursday evening was a special time for Terri and I down at Mallory Square in Key West.  You see, this is the quintessential place for all sunsets, so they say-and, depending upon cloud cover at sunset, that could be right!!

About 4:00 PM, EDT last Thursday, November 1st, (we changed to EST on Saturday evening, November 3rd  here), I took my Mom and Aunt, visiting from the Charlottesville, Virginia area (check out my AR friend, Charles McDonald, of Charlottesville), to the Harry Truman Little White House on Truman Annex of the Key West Naval Air Station (KWNAS).  This was REALLY SPECIAL to all of us.  President Truman, who had actually never even ran for office, absolutely loved the city of Key West.  I could go on and on (and if anybody wants me to, I will!!) tell you about the President's hands-on with our community back when he was the Chief Executive, most often making major world decisions from right here, and even driving himself around the place!).

Leaving the awsome "Little White House", we sauntered the short walk over to Mallory Square.  Mom was in her rented "pushcart" (trouble w/her feet-not bad at 84, and everything else fantastic!), and Aunt Joyce actually enjoying pushing her over to the Square (immagine my embarrasment at having overseers notice me walking alongside these two older ladies while I just walked along like a Tourist!).

Well, we see ( so many folks think there is no sunset in the World like we have here), so   we set ourselves up for the 6:47 (then time), sunset.  This place is kind of a "Mecca" for evening and sunset "worshippers".  Many say that there is no place in the World that has sunsets like we see  at Mallory Square.  There are, each evening, a multitude of perfpormers (some doing pretty amazing stuff), and lots of cool vendors.  They are able to be there for a few hours each evening by drawing lots as to who gets to be there each evening-seems to work out well for them.

We get to go there all the time, but it was kind of nice to introduce our Virginia "Grande Dames" to this!  Looking at the photos, Terri is between Aunt Joyce (in the raspberry blouse) and Mom (in the cap), and there is a chap on the left of Aunt Joyce who actually is from Warrenton, Virginia, and knows many of my acquaintances from up that way.  This was a VERY small crowd, compared to what we have "in season", and the "Season" of Snowbird inhabittance in just beginning-more about that later!)

When you visit here, please make sure you visit Mallory Square and its many very cool attractions, within steps, such as the Truman White House and the Mel Fisher Treasure Museum ( all about the recovery from the Santa Maria Atochia)!  Call me if you want even more excitement!!
