Over 93,000 children, and an even greater amount of adults and seniors across Long Island, take advantage of emergency food programs.  In keeping with the theme of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Advance Relocation Resource Group is teaming up with the Long Island Radio Group and Waldbaum's to support Island Harvest's Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign.

If you're interested in contributing to this very worthy cause, you can make a donation at the Waldbaum's on Route 110 in Melville.  The address is 890 Walt Whitman Road (1/2 mile north of the Northern State Parkway on the right).

The goal of the Stuff The Mayflower Food Drive is to fill one large Mayflower truck with food.  Aside from individual donations, businesses along Route 110 and throughout Long Island are being asked to place boxes in their offices to collect food as well.  Once this food drive is complete, all of the food will be distributed to Island Harvest's network of member agencies throughout Long Island.

The Advance Relocation Resource Group has long been involved with giving back to the community, regularly donating warehouse space, furniture, trucks and time to various Long Island charities and non-profit organizations.

For more information about the Stuff The Mayflower Food Drive, please call 516-775-0453 (Ext 3).  Island Harvest is also looking for volunteers for to help at events such as food shows, concerts, fairs and large food drives.  If you're interested, please call 516-294-8528.

Hi Adam,
These type of food drives are wonderful and such a great way to reach out and help those in need.  One of our local tv stations do a very similar type of food drive a few weeks before Christmas, traveling to all the towns and collecting food for the food bank.  With the increase price of gas and heating cost, more and more families will benefit from these donations.  I am this one in your area is successful.

Adam, what a wonderful organization! My first bike event was a food drive in 1991. I lived in Walnut Creek CA then, and it was about this time of year. We brought canned goods to a police escorted ride that was led by Santa on a trike. They shut down part of 680 (a freeway that goes thru Walnut Creek and Concord) for us and it was such a thrill for me to look behind us and see nothing but headlights of bikes on that freeway, all of us had come together to help feed those who couldn't buy food for the holiday. I hope you fill that truck and then some!  (I think the count was 200 bikes, back then that was a lot of bikes)

Adam, This is Wonderful, I haven't heard of it.  I am curious if only one Waldbaum's is participating?  And if we can get others to do so as well.  My kids both worked for the one in Farmingdale, I wonder if they would sign on to help.....Let me know your thoughts and I'd be glad to do whatever I can.

Adam-What a fabulous way of giving back more to the community.  We don't have a Waldbaum's here in Utah.  I like this idea because it stands out in a huge way.  We usually have the barrells that are put out in the office building to fill up.  Giving makes the heart stronger.

Adam - This is a terrific idea and cause.  Having been involved in the direct distribution of food to those who need it, I can tell you that it is very rewarding.  Great idea for a post, buddy.

CYNTHIA: Thank you for commenting.  It's nice to see that these things are being done all over.  You make a good point about the price of gas and heat making this even more of a necessity.

LYSA:  That sounds like such a great story.  You should do a blog about that experience.  I'd love to read all about it.  Hopefully, this one will be a huge success also.

CAROLE:  I'm pretty sure that it's just this particular Waldbaum's for this one, however, they may do something else around the season.  I'd have to look into it more.  It would be great if your kids made contact to find out any information that they can.  Thanks for your support, Carole.

JULIE:  I'm pretty sure that most supermarket chains are regionalized.  I found that out when I used to travel for business, and saw that household names in a region were names that I'd never even heard of.  This is a great cause, and it's always nice to hear about these things going on.  Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Julie.

JASON:  The idea was courtesy of the Mrs., but I agree that it was a great idea to feature this very worthy cause.  Thanks for sharing your experience, Jason.  It doesn't surprise me that you've been involved in these directly.

Adam- I hope you can get this italic thing worked out because I can not read all these comments without really straining my eyes. Food drives are great. The Thanksgiving dinners that these organizations put on are very needed. Thank you for sharing this info so people know where to go to help. Katerina
