Van Dusen Botanical Gardens – Festival of Lights - December Season of Celebrating & Sharing
Van Dusen Botanical Gardens is transformed into a magical garden during the Festival of Lights. Everywhere you look, thousands upon thousands of lights adorn trees, bushes, rocks and pretty much every nook and cranny you can think of. Each path is well marked, and one is able to stroll leisurely down Candy Cane Lane, or Gingerbread Wood and gaze at the beautiful display before you. The background music is sure to get you humming along and into the Christmas spirit!
One of the highlights is definitely the light show, called Dancing Lights on Livingston Lake, where lights seemingly “dance” to the accompanying music.
These shows start at 4:30pm, and play every half hour. Another highlight is visiting Santa’s Living Room, where Santa appears nightly up to and including December 24th. You can also find Svend and Jens, the Christmas Elves appearing at Centre Court.
Don’t worry, you also won’t starve. Gingerbread waffles and mint hot chocolate are served in various area of the park. Just remember to bring some good old fashioned cash, as this is all that is accepted in these kiosks.
Proceeds go to maintaining the gardens for the community to enjoy for years to come.
“The role of a botanical garden is to foster a greater understanding of the crucial importance of plants to life and the value of conserving the earth’s biodiversity for future generations”
