b 24 airplane,ww II,mooers realtyMost Active Rainers have a veteran in the family or were one themselves.  My dad was a tail gunner in the B-24 pictured in this blog during WW II! A plane like this was manufactured every 55 minutes in the USA during the height of daylight bombing of Germany.  Daylight bombing was very effective but many planes did not come back to base in Italy.  Had two brothers in the service during Vietnam era so veterans are pretty special in my book.  On Veterans Day, the 11th day, of the 11th month, at 11...stop, be silent, pray and  remember veterans, those in your family alive and deceased.  Remember our boys and girls, men and ladies around the world serving in the armed forces this monday at 11 oclock when you observe Veteran's Day in your town or city. "Some gave all, many gave some".

Andrew,

Great post. You got some heroes in your family. Tail gunner over Germany "WOW" it's men like your father that allow us and the world to be free. You have a family to be proud of. God bless them all and all the Vets.

Thanks Mike...it is neat to think of 19 and 20 year olds, ten of them flying 50 missions..and making it back.  Different age then..victory gardens, ticker tape parades....hometown heroes..lots of them!  Enjoy Veterans Day!

Thanks for the blog Andrew. And while we are thinking of all those brave men and women can we all please spare a thought for Colonel Paul Tibbets - the pilot of the Enola Gay who died a week ago. Colonel Tibbets knew of the gravity of his mission and also knew he would be saving literally millions of lives by bring the war to an early conclusion. He was a great American hero.

We need to remember our vets each day of the year, not just on their special day! They give so much for all of us!
