Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is in town this month. They here because of one very special young man – Patrick Henry Hughes . Patrick is 19 years old, plays the in the University of Louisville Marching and Pep Bands, plays the piano (he began playing at the age of 9 months), plays the trumpet, and sings.

What’s so special about Patrick?

Patrick is blind and unable to fully straighten his arms and legs, which makes him unable to walk. With his fathers help (Patrick John Hughes), Patrick is able to participate in the Marching and Pep Bands. His father learns the routines for the marching band and pushes Patrick in his wheelchair while he plays his trumpet.

Patrick has been recognized for several awards and has been featured on Oprah, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and many others. Because of the achievements of this incredible young person, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is in town this week to rebuild his home. In addition to his home, Extreme Makeover is also making modifications to the University of Louisville Marching Bands practice field.

Extreme Makeover uses local contractors and volunteers to help with the building of the home. Elite Homes and Dauenhauer Plumbing are just a few of the contractors chosen to help rebuild the Hughes home. Also, Fifth Third Bank, in conjunction with these contractors, are paying off the Hughes’ home mortgage.

While their home is being rebuilt, Extreme Makeover has sent them on an all expense paid trip to London, England to relax during the next few weeks.

My company Tri City Van & Storage provided the packing, moving and storage services for the Hughes family and with the overwhelming request to volunteer from my employees when we told them about the stiuation was just fantastic. To help this family is the most gratifying move that my company has ever been involved in. We are very proud to be in part of this community effort.

Thank you Extreme Makeover Home Edition for everything your doing for the Hughes family..

Hey Logan, I'm glad you were able to volunteer to help out! That's great! They're supposed to be revealing the home to the Hughes family this afternoon - around 2:00. The public is invited to attend and watch the house be revealed.

We(our 4H club) were visiting Louisville Kentucky as a trip. We traveled from Michigan to see some area attractions in Louisville. When we found out about the home makeover that was just a few miles from our hotel we all wanted to visit. We were in awe to see how things fall into place in such a quick time. We were there on Friday afternoon and then went back before we headed back to Michigan Saturday morning. It is amazing how a community gathered together and helped out this family. Kudos to you and the Louisville community. From Equine Achievers 4-H club in Michigan

Mary, I'm so glad you got the chance to visit Louisville and that you got to visit the Home Makeover site.  It's a great thing that show is doing, and the Hughes family couldn't be more deserving.  I'm amazed at how quickly they built such a huge house! :)

My name is Jessica. I am 26 years old and I saw the program tonight... I just want to say that Patrick Henry is a great inspiration to me... I was born with Spinabifida and Hydracephalus. My parets were told that I would never walk or even move and that if I was to move it would be because they moved me, They basically referred to me as a vegetable. I am in a wheelchair, but I am doing everything that they said I wouldnt do. It is because of God.. I now live on my own and take care of myself the best that I can.. No it has not been easy and yes I have felt many times like giving up. It is people like you Patrick that keep me going, I would love to be able to meet you but I know that is probably not possible. Please keep God first in your life and let Him guide your steps. You will continually be in my prayers... Take care and God Bless you always.... Jessica

I just watched the show and Partick brought tears to my eyes and my boyfriends eyes.  We often need a reality check to remember when we think our lifes or so bad, just to look at a boy who is disabilitie and be happy with life.  Then there those of us who don't have disablilities but cannot find happy days in life.  Thank Patrick for the reality check

There's a great new reality show premiering on ABC Family channel on Saturday November 1 called One Good Turn. It's produced by the co-creator of Extreme Makeover Home Edition and is great entertainment for the whole family. One Good Turn travels into communities knocking on doors motivating neighbors to come together to help one of their own. Don't miss this wonderful new show. It'll make you smile and restore your faith in the human spirit.
