What is a Yellow Button Agent?

In my local real estate office we have a program that is available for every agent to participate in if they wish and then they will be called a Yellow Button Agent!  What is a yellow button agent?  Basically, to be a yellow button agent it requires that you have all of your office phone calls forwarded to your cell phone 24/7 (which is provided for FREE at my office & a yellow sticker will also be placed over our sign in/out magnet signifying that we are a yellow button agent).  This way anyone who calls into the office about one of the yellow button agents listings automatically gets forwarded by the non-licensed receptionist to their agents cell phone since they are the listing agent too.  This makes sense since the listing agent pays for the ads to make the phone ring, so they SHOULD get the call right?

Not everyone agrees about this issue in my office and mainly the disagreement comes from the newer agents who feel that if they do "floor duty" they should be entitled to the "leads" a.k.a. calls from the listings that come in!  The floor duty agents do get any walk-ins or general inquiries about buying or selling a home as well as the inquiries about the NON-Yellow Button agents listings too!  Why would anyone not be a yellow button agent?  You got me, I know I sure am!

Do any of you have a floor duty program similar to this?  If not, I highly recommend suggesting this model to your managers as it really works!  This system rewards the agents who are doing most of the listing and in effect making the office phones ring and let's them KEEP THEIR OWN BUSINESS!  What do you all think?

Michael-This is a great idea.  I have all my calls forwarded to my cell 24/7.  I don't want to miss any of my calls. Especially when I'm in and out of the office so often.

I always have my calls forwarded to my cell phone if I'm not in the office. :)

But does your office give you ALL of your AD calls?  Or does the floor duty agent get them?

I am a yellow button agent (I didn't have a name for it but I qualify)--I don't run ads that I can't put my direct phone # on and I have my own signs (they include brokerage info but have my contact # on them) and I always have all lines forwarded to my cell.

New agents should not build their business around the duty desk!  My first broker made every new agent earn the right to do duty.  We had to build our sphere of influence, get out and hang door knockers, give out our business cards, call the expired listings, etc.  We had to close two deals before we could work duty desk.  I am a better agent for it.

Sandy, I completely agree with you.  I am in my 3rd year in the biz and have only sat for floor duty about 4 times and 3 of them were for "required training" when I first started!  There are so many other ways to get business instead of floor duty and frankly I feel like floor duty is the same as going into a casino, you may hit it big once or twice, but after that, it eventually stops and it is pure luck anyway (regardless of whatever professional gamblers tell you)!

Thanks for your remarks!

Essentially the floor duty person gets all the leads for the day.  However I agree that if you pay for an ad, you should get the call.
