Beautiful place to live and it was a great place to grow up, but unless you're one of the privledged few, the cost of the homes and the property taxes alone will kill you.  I definitely don't miss the days of working for my house.  Although, if you've got the money, it is a nice place to live.

Still money around, as long as we have trains running back and forth to NYC. Nothing like it was 5 to 10 years ago.

Yeah, I bet.  We see a lot of them down here now.  Just had a couple sell in Princeton and move here to a golf course community in Chapel Hill.  Same amount of house, $300,000 less and taxes went from $18,000 to $4,000.  They also don't have to shovel snow or scrape ice.  One good thing about a recession, it seems to have everyone living within their means now and not spending money they really don't have.  The fact that homes haven't appreciated over the past five years like they have in the past, and probably won't again for many years, leaves a lot of people feeling very frugal.  You may not be moving as many properties as you did, but at least your price points are still better than most.  Down here, unless you're moving 2 a month, you're not really making a living.
