This week in Door County is a great time for visitors and residents alike. I googled things to do throughout the Door Peninsula, and we have a full week ahead. There are fantastic holiday sales at all On Deck locations (Fish Creek, Sister Bay and Sturgeon Bay), a lot of our consignment shops have half-off sales in preparation for the new year, and many of our restaurants are open with extended hours this week. You can enjoy breakfast at the Viking Grill (great corned beef hash), lunch at Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant (and stop in the Butik) and dinner from so many places....I'll try to hit the Sister Bay Bowl, the Mission (Sister Bay) or Alexander's (Fish Creek). I've had yet to have a bad meal yet this year, which means 2013 equals DIET.
But there are indoor and outdoor activities coming up in Door County, too. Our Broom Ball season is right around the corner (look for JJ's, the defending champs, to be serious about keeping the Cup this year), plus ice skating and ice fishing on our smaller lakes. For some indoor fun, the Sister Bay Bowl has six lanes and is family-friendly.
No snow yet, but it's just a matter of time before Peninsula State Park is ready for sledding and skiiing, and Newport will delight cross-country skiiers as usual. And it's the six day countdown before Jacksonport's Polar Bear Plunge, caught on film forever in the Tony Shalhoub film "Feed the Fish". Cozy up before a roaring fire and watch it if you don't want to take the actual plunge!
This week in Door County offers something for everyone. For more information on fun things to see, do and enjoy, visit me at my Fish Creek office, check out our website or email me for my top ten list for the week. Happy holidays!
