Making Miracles Happen - 2011 December Blogging Challenge DAY 26

By

On the 26th day of the Blogging challenge I faced a day full of challenges. It was Monday after all. For me it was a work day. For many though , it was another day off. It was nice for the people who were off, but no so great for anyone trying to conduct any Real Estate business. When other people are off , Real Estate agents are usually their busiest. The phone started ringing early. There were still 2 buyers waiting to be in their new homes but did not close last week due to someone who did not complete their share of the job in 2 seperate cases.  We needed a small miracle and a lot of hard work to make things happen.

Please see my blog "Why are people in the Real Estate Industry NOT READY TO WORK?"

It seemed to be pretty controversial to push people to work on the Monday after Christmas but for anyone in the service industry, they are used to working when needed. If you are a loan officer, when you take on a client - you work for that client to get them their loan. If you are the closing company - you work to get the sale closed on time. if you are the buyers agent - you look out for your buyers interests. Iif you are the Listing agent - you look out for the sellers interest IN ADDITION to acting as the director of the sale, making sure each other person or company is doing or has done their job to get the sale closed.

Compare it to a chain with a weak link or a row of domino's where 1 mistake can make everything fall....

As a listing agent, director and referee... It is my job to work hard and see that things get completed. During Christmas week I would love nothing more to have the week off and be in Florida right now seeing Mickey. but I had to stay back and make the dreams of two buyers come true. So on the Monday after Christmas, it is time to call those who ruined these buyers Christmas and mine, and get the job done.

Holidays are special for all of us. But when you take on a job, you need to complete it. When you decide on your own to not finish your job for a client you are representing, you affect them directly along with everyone else in the chain of people working for the purchase and sale to be completed.

Wishing you all Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.

Scott, this may be controversial to say, but what's wrong with taking time out for family and friends once in awhile?  There is a reason most people weren't answering their phones or in their offices yesterday - CHRISTMAS!  It's traditional to take a 3-day weekend around Christmas to spend time with family and friends.  Even if you don't celebrate it, some respect for those who do is good business etiquette.  I would find it more impressive to hear you talking about having the guts to tell your clients that they can wait a day in condsideration of other people than how you intruded on people's celebration and raised your blood pressure.

Wende i celebrate Christmas and had a wonderful day.  The Monday after Christmas is not a Holiday for the self employeed. In Real Estate it is not TRADITIONAL to take any time off except Christmas Day, Thanksgiving and Easter. As an agent you work when people need you to work,  especially if you were hired to represent them as an agent, loan officer or closing attorney.

IN MY CASE when a buyer hires a loan officer to get their mortgage completed, it is expected they are going to complete their job no matter when it is. This buyer drove over 1500 miles to close on Dec 24, and be in their new home for Christmas. The loan officer, knowing up front when the buyer was arriving for a closing So when the loan officer assures everythnig is allset and it is not. than takes time off and does not tell anyone causing the closing to be postponed, you have a buyer living in a motel who did not close. For me to expect them to answer their phone is not too much the day after Christmas

Wendy....you're off base..... this is not a traditional business....you have one chance to say yes or no....most would make the right decision and answer in the affirmative.... are you not full time??  you feel you're deserving of taking three days off and telling a client to wait!!!!! Scott made the right decision and that's why he's a successful real estate agent..... it might do you well to take a page from his book.

Hi Scott. It is important to me to work on Christmas Day and the day after Christmas. Many people want to list or buy. It is a great opportunity. I have two new listings because I was working and I am glad.
