Please excuse me for ranting, but I have now officially placed spam-like e-mails from other REALTORs in the same mental category as Viagra ads, Canadian pharmacies and enticing get-rich letters from the former Third Assistant to the Under-Secretary for Commerce of Botswana.

Fellow REALTORs:  STOP IT!!!!!!! Please STOP sending out blanket e-mails advertising a $500 signing bonus for your subdivision that is located 4 hours away, or in another state. STOP trying to entice me to send my prospective commercial investors to your newly-listed office complex in Tucson. In other words, STOP SENDING UNSOLICITED FLYERS!!!!!

In the past 2 days I have "opted out" of at least a dozen of these, all from well-meaning but badly misled REALTORs who apparently think that by flooding the virtual airwaves with their flyer that their fellow REALTORs are going to flock to their listing. Maybe you've had a lot of success with this, maybe not. But my deeply held suspicion is that all you've really accomplished is to p*** off a lot of your colleagues.

There. I'm through now.

I agree, I have been inundated with them as well.  Do they not realize that when I am looking for a particular property, I will have the means to look for one...after all, we all have the access to our MLS, we ALREADY know whats for sale.

The bulk emails are annoying, the good thing is that they are blatant and obvious "delete"

Here in Delaware there are mixed emotions about the emails.  It has just in the last year become a new thing (we are alittle behind the times on something).  Working at the beach is such a different environment.  It is so important to know your inventory and I try to make it a habit to view new hotsheets daily but will admit that the emails have reminded me at times what is out there.

Good Luck!

They are mistaking activity for achievement. When you are doing nothing you can send out 10,000 emails in a blast and make yourself feel as though you are on your way.

Here's an idea that I use. GEt yourself some stationary, go meet 5 people a day and send them a hand written note with you card. The card can say "It was good to meet you".

I have been doing this for a couple of years. I get 3 to 5 deals per month from this simple  approach. Since few others do it...I stand out.

Everyone opens a letter or a card. Everyone deetes emails.

AMEN.  I find these unsolicited e-mails and faxes annoying.  It's probably a good thing that they're so forgetable because I'd make it a point not to send any business that way.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I guess desperate times call for desperate e-mails.  As REALTORS, some may not consider us the brightest group around, but most of us can read the listings in our local MLS.  If I have a buyer looking for a property like that one I will show it to them--without their e-mail.

I do business in California.  I have NO CLIENTS looking for beach front property at low tide in Mexico, a "GREAT BUY" on a condo in Florida or a Villa in Italy!

UN-SUBSCRIBE is my new favorite word!

Sounds annoying, but it doesn't happen to me much...once in a great while. I think it has to do with how many forms you fill out on line. I think that's the way they get your address. Oh, well, life's too short to worry about everything, right?

Steve, I'm with you! I keep getting "deals" from out-of-state, out-of-area Realtors that  are of no use to me - I've opted out of the obvious ones I don't want, but have to deal with the deluge of local Realtors who have resorted to email flyers as the main focus of their marketing campaign. I understand budgets are slimmer, but that does not mean I want to have twice the information about listings in the local MLS.

Well said!  I get many flyer's from other islands that have no interest to even keep up with.

Hi, Steve.  How are you doing?  This message is for the entire sales force.  Please return all those nifty zipper bags that you may have received in the past.  We are in financial trouble now due to that nasty judicial business and need to resell them in Thailand.  Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Love,

I agree totally with you.  How many Viagra emails so we need?

My license is in Pennsylvania, and a condo in Arizona, unless I can get a referral fee, is not much use to me

Thanks for the post.  I enjoyed reading it.

     Hello dear

l am Miss ELIZABETH, the only daughter of late Chief and Mrs Julius  DAVID.My father was a very wealthy cocoa merchant in Abidjan here, the economic capital of Ivory Coast, he was poissoned to death by his business associates on one of their outings for business. My mother died on the 20th october 1992 and my father took me so special because l am motherless.   Before the death of my father on 29th november 2006 in a private hospital here in Abidjan, he called me and made some sympathetic comments:  (1) he conplained that I am too young to be managing my life, (2)that I have not finished my university education as he planned for me, (3) that no body is to take care of me anymore , but after much , he revealed to me that he has the sum of US$8.000.000.(EIGHT MILLION UNITED STATES DOLLARS) left in a security company  here in Abidjan. That he used my name as the only daughter for his next of kin in deposit of the fund.He passed an instruction to me, that l should seek for a GOD fearing foreign partner in a country of my choice where l will transfer this money and use it for proper investment purpose. That I must finish my university education by the help of a business partner abroad. He told me the money was deposited as an atifact to avoid problem or  tamparing by the officers of the company and to make sure  I do not begin to make use of the money here so that his enemies will not get at me. I am now ready to do all these since my father my bread winner is no more and more worse the incesant political crisis here. l am honourably seeking your assistance in the following ways: (1) to serve as my gaurdian in your country whereas I will depend on your expert advise  .
( 2 ) to make arrangement for me to come over to your country in order to further my university education and to secure a residential permit for me in your country.
Moreover, l am willing to offer you 20% of the total sum as compensation for your effort /input after the successfull transfer of this fund to your account overseas. Furthermore, you can indicate your option towards assisting me as l believed that this project would be concluded within fourteen ( 14 ) days you signify interest to assist me.
Hoping to hear from you soonest. May God bless you as you extend your helping hand to a needy fellow. please contact me in my private Email (
