I recently relocated to Atlanta from south Florida where I had lived for several years. Interestingly enough, a few miles from my home outside Ft. Myers there was a local winery. I visited this winery on a couple of occassion and purchasing a couple of cases mostly to share with out of town visitors or to have for a day at the beach or by the pool. It might sound odd that a chilled white or blush wine would be the drink of choice for a hot afternoon at the beach, or by the pool but not so. The grapes that far south in Florida are quite sweet, thus the wine is fairly sweet. I would compare the wines from Eden Winery with Rieslings. The winery is small and can be toured in a morning. It is definitely a fun day trip if you are in the Ft. Myers/Naples area. Here is the link to their website: http://www.edenwinery.com/index.htm

BLR - LOL...well you will just have to take someone who is and laugh at them as they stumble drunkenly through the vineyards...wait a minute...<<<smile>>> Added benefit, you can catch a Red Sox spring training game in Ft. Myers!

Rich, never thought of Florida as a wine producing state, but since the Red Sox training camp is so close by we'll HAVE to check out this winery next time we're in Florida. Thanks for the tip.

Debbie - You definitely should check it out especially if you are at City of Palms Park in Ft Myers for the Boston Red Sox spring training as it is only about a 30 minute drive to the winery. Don't forget to also check out the Minnesota Twins spring training in Ft Myers as well! As for the wine itself, it is definitely a sweet wine. I don't know if the sweetness is from the year round warmth or the grape varieties or some combination of both. When I lived there and was looking to buy a home, I did look at a home with a small vineyard. I tasted those grapes (right off the vine) and they were quite sweet. Let me know how you like it if you make it to the winery, the Red Sox, or the Twins.

Hi Rich, I agree with you completely. I absolutely love a chilled Pinot by my pool or in my garden on a warm summer evening, accompanied by a Caprese or sliced apples and pears. It's a great way to watch the "blue time" of dusk onset! I'll need to check out this winery... I've got a buddy that just bought a winter house in Ft. Myers a few weeks ago.

These small wineries are always such great surprises. Touring it makes for a fun day trip. You should definitely let you friend know about it too as many of the locals are unaware of its presence! Thanks for reading and commenting!
