Orchid House at Longwood Gardens

At this time of the year, families travel to Longwood Gardens to see the annual display A Longwood Christmas.  However, there are other garden treasures to be found during your visit.  At any time of the year, Dolores and I enjoy spending some time in the Orchid House which is a section of the very large Conservatory.  Follow the Acacia Passage from the Orangery to the Orchid House for very special experience.

"This room houses the best of Longwood’s more than 3,200 different types of orchids. At any one time approximately 200 to 500 plants at peak bloom add color and scent the air. Ferns, ivies, and peace lilies (Spathiphyllum) provide a green backdrop for the myriad of blossoms."

Please share photographs from your favorite places in the comments for this post.  Be sure to have your camera in hand to capture those special moments during the holidays.

Happy Holidays!  Happy New Year!

Orchids are some amazing flowers. I understand they are alot easier to grow than they used to be. (At least the modified ones.)

Roy~Those are some beautiful orchids. Great job taking the photos. I get excited when I see a wild lady slipper here in MN, I can't imagine seeing something like that.

Have an AWESOME day!

What stunning photographs of the orchids!  They are one of my favorite flowers.  Just so much color, movement in their structure and the variety is amazing.  Happy New Year Roy!

Hi Roy, I absolutely love orchids.  I used to grow orchids when I lived in Miami and thoroughly enjoyed them.  These that you are sharing are beautiful.

Hi Roy - Thanks for reminding me that I had to check on the Orchid Tree.  We walk by this tree every evening, and my wife told me she thought it was an Orchid Tree.  I was a doubting Thomas.  I just googled it (Bauhinia Variegata), and I am afraid she is right!  I guess I will have to carry the camera on one of these walks . . .
