Portland Aerial Tram runs from the Marquem Hill Oregon Heath & Science University (OHSU) Campus down to the South Street waterfront buildings.

The Tram finally opened in 2007 after several years of controversy over not only the cost at $57 million (nearly four times the initial estimate), but also with the homeowners of the neighborhoods directly below the tram. They were concerned and rightly so that their privacy and home values would decrease. It mainly serves the employees, patients, visitors and students of the hospital and university. but is open to the public as well.

In my picture below, I was excited to finally be in the passenger seat when driving on I-5 while the Tram was coming down!

That just has to be the Portland aerial tram which rides between Oregon Healthy & Science University and the Southern Waterfront.  It travels 3300 feet horizontally, 500 feet vertically and takes about 3 minutes.

How'd I do?

Hi Cindy,

Never got a chance to stop by last week. We were on a fun excursion with driving taking up most of the day. Hope the Christmas Holiday was happy & healthy for you and your family! I'm thinking Kat has made a pretty good run at this one ;-) I'll bet the view from the top is exquisite!

Hi John, Glad to hear you were out and about having fun! I was out last night and got in later than I thought I would..so just now getting to putting in the answer...which you're right...Kat nailed! I've not been inside the Tram, but have seen pictures of people who have and it is a gorgeous view..especially on a clear day when the mountains like Mt. Hood and St Helens are really visible.

How cool is that?!  I can just imagine the controversy with some of the neighbors.  I wish we had something like that here.  Then again, it would probably take a century to approve (lol).

Hi Mary..a well deserved mention as you were VERY spot on in the detail of the location. Funny, I've been hearing mixed predictions for the market in 2012..but this is unfortunatly normal. No matter, I just know we'll have a great year!
