Many people have a written business plan but few have a written business vision. Today I asked all of my team - 16 of them - to write out at least two paragraphs of their vision of what they want their life and business to look like for one year from today - December 28, 2012. I wanted them to take the time to "see" themselves in their mind's eye one year from now. Yesterday, my post was about VISION and how you should always have a VISION before a PLAN.

My team was anxious to give me their "plan" which included their goals for 2012 but were a little reluctant to give me their VISION. It feels so risky. It is so transparent. It could make one feel so vulnerable. But it is so powerful.

Why not give it a try?  Write your vision.  Make it real.  Read it daily for the next year.  Do one thing each day that moves you closer to that reality.  And then in one year see if you are not closer than ever before to the life and business you have envisioned.

VISION.  Helen Keller said, "It is a terrible thing to see and have no vision."

Wow, Louise, what a good idea to have your team write out their vision for the year. You're right, goals are important, but vision is essential!

I, too, will check out the Suits in Boots.

All the best in 2012!

A vision statement is usually the first part of a business plan.  Sounds like you have your team headed in the right direction.

I love this concept, and it applies in many ways. An inability to see something before it's 'real' is what keeps home buyers from snagging that well-priced but messy house, because it 'needs so much work', when really all it needs is a good cleaning and coat of paint.
