First day on the beach in Costa Maya, Mexico.
It is amazing what will entertain kids. I really thought both of my boys would be too 'old' to make sandcastles, but they spent most of the day playing in the sand.
Just getting started in the castle building business. Got to have a solid foundation.
First Tower ready to be dropped into position.

First attempt at building a castle. They quickly learned that a wall is a must if you are going to build anywhere near the surf line.
They learned to 'drizzle' the wet sand out of a cup to get unique towers.
Wall inspection. Must make sure it is ready for the first wave!
They made a small moat and another little wall to make the castle last a little longer.
It was still standing when we left, although the walls were a little worse for wear. They thought that was really cool.

8 Comments on Sandcastle: I Tried To Sell It, But No Takers, Except The Ocean
Hi Than, Great pics and looks like they had a great time. I'll include a link to my site which includes pics of the American and the Worlds Championship of Sand Carving - 2011. www.BillGillhespy.com
Than, Nice photo's! Anything with sand and water work for me. Those boys look like there loving it! Have a great time!
Bill: Cool sand art. It is amazing what they can do. Thanks for the link.
Keith: I have the same attitude. Trying to get my boys to move to the beach, but they aren't going for it. I guess when puberty kicks in I will have more willing kids. You know anyone that needs a managing broker that lives on an island (preferably the Caymans)? :-)
Great photos ! Looks like they are having a good time! Have a Happy New Year!!!
Than, It looks warm, warm, warm there. Your boys look like they were really enjoying themselves too! The best you in 2012 and hope your dream of living on the beach comes true!
Sandcastles are legos without the bumps, Than. Kids love playing in the sand and dreaming dreams. The photographs are great!
Happy New Year!
I have two, fully grown and married sons, and these photos bring back a memory or two! Perhaps you have future architects or builders on your hands, rather than sailors or swimmers! =o)
Hi Than,
I think your caption is so clever. Yes, it would be hard to sell a house made of sand but your boys look like they are having a great time making them and what a beauty. I remember making them and they do not come out so great as if the sand is not just perfect, it falls apart or will not come out al all.
Happy Holidays Than. Best wishes and many blessings for a wonderful 2012.
