The 27th day of the Blogging challenge was a busy one. As with most days a good Real Estate agent tries to balance their day between taking care of existing clients, showing houses, working on getting closings to actually close and working on getting new clients. of course in between that there is answering the phone, returning emails and messages and updating clients on urgent matters.
Fighting an uphill battle to keep two closings to actually close this year (before this Friday) has taken a lot of time and patience. Both which I seem to be short on these days. I had an interesting call from a reporter who wanted to know if my blogs were all hype. I was puzzled as I usually write about my days activities. They wanted to know if it could possible be as busy as I write about. Simply put "YES".
This is an unusualy market right now and an unusual winter here in NH. First we lost 3 weeks of our fall market to a freak Blizzard and a good week of power outtages which stopped business cold in it's tracks. But then it warmed up, we have not had more than an inch of snow which melted quickly. With the warm weather and lack of snow buyers kept buying, sellers kept selling and banks started loaning money. It has been the busiest December since 2004 and the busiest week before and busiest week after Christmas EVER. prices are still low but stabilizing, Inventory is down and sales are up.
A lot of people were not happy I was working so hard this week. Other agents seemed "put off" when i want to set up showings. Loan Officers have not been quick to provide pre-quailifications for new buyers and Closing companies have skeleton crews. A lady yesterday left me the rudest comment I have ever received on AR of how dare I expect people to work the Monday after Christmas. "That i should grow some guts to tell buyers or sellers that they will have to just wait."
Being in Real Estate for 25 years I have learned a bunch of lessons. Some being...
1. Being a Real Estate agent is not a "regular" job therefore it does not have regular hours.
2. When potential clients are off, they will want their agent to be available.
3. Make hay when the sun is shines. Meaning if it is busy, accept the work as you never know when there will not be any.
4. Expect the unexpected - There are many forces such as inspections, appraisals and underwriters you can not control, so it is important to do your best on what you can, then watch the other parts of a purchase or sale carefully to assist when necessary.
5. Work hard and do your best. Provide the best personal and professional service you can.
Now do not get me wrong, I would much rather be off this week as in past years enjoying a vacation, but this year it is just too busy. When I take on a client, it is my job to see that my job is done and done well. The smiles on the faces of those moving into their new homes this week say it all and makes the extra work well worth it. What is "Regular" for some i snot for all, what is "Regular" fo rme is for my clients to expect the Best possible professional and personal service through each step of the buying or selling process. Full time, Full service "All the time"....
