New Tradition in Palm Springs for New Year’s: Olive Drop
A new tradition will start in Palm Springs this New Year’s Eve: the Palm Springs Olive Drop. No city west of the Mississppi River has a New Year’s Eve event akin to the ball drop in Time Square in New York. Well that is about to change! Get ready for The Palm Springs Olive Drop™. Rather than raising a glass of champagne at the stroke of midnight, we’d like to do something that reflects Palm Springs: drop an olive into a martini!
To kick off this year's inaugural Palm Springs Olive Drop, a grass-roots olive drop is planned for tourists, residents and participating restaurants and bars. Olive Drops will happen all over Palm Springs at the stroke of midnight. Participants are encouraged to record their own olive drops and upload their video clips to the olivedrop.org website or Palm Springs Olive Drop facebook page.
Restaurants and bars participating in the inaugural Palm Springs Olive Drop include: LULU California Bistro, LG’s Prime Steakhouse, Johannes, Zin American Bistro, Zini Café Mediterrano, The Falls, Village Pub and Tropicale. Not only that, LG’s Prime Steakhouse is constructing a giant olive to drop in the entrance of the restaurant at midnight!
