Where Does a First Time Home Buyer Start?

HELP! I am a first time homebuyer, and I don't know where to start! Most of my friends and family have bought homes, and they all have stories and opinions to share with me, but I AM SOOOOO CONFUSED!!!!

Every time I open a newspaper, go online, watch the news, or listen to the radio, I am bombarded with "Real Estate Market Crash" and "Mortgage Meltdown". But, then I hear Industry Professionals saying "Now Is The Time To Buy". First Interest Rates are going UP, then they are going down. I feel like I am on a rollercoaster!

I have so many questions, even questions I don't know to ask. Hungry industry professionals seem like they are answering my questions, then someone else contradicts them. So what do I do? Where do I start?

A great place to start is with a Homebuyer Education Course. Find a HUD approved Housing Resource Center in your area, and ask about their "ABC's of Homebuying" or "Realizing the American Dream" courses which are taught by knowledgeable, impartial, no-pressure Instructors who are there to provide you with the information you need and answer your questions. They are there to support and guide you, not sell you, and set you on the road to Homeownership with the tools you will need.

So, arm yourself with knowledge, and make the process less intimidating. Sign up for a program near you.

See you at the closing table!

Very good information Karen. I know a lot of people push things off because it just seems so confusing to them and they feel overwhelmed. Its nice to get them into an educational class to help guide them. Good for you :)

Thanks, Rick. I know you, like I, have a commitment to responsible lending. Educating first time homebuyers is a key factor in that commitment. I love teaching these courses, and seeing the confidence the students leave with. Probably one of the most rewarding experiences for me.
