Las Vegas has been in a 'drought' for several years. We are all on mandatory water rationing because of the lack of water. We (my family) personally are in the "E" group and for the winter months are only allowed to water one day a week during the winter months (November through February)....our day is Friday. Spring/Fall/Summer are easier months...with watering allowed 3 days a week during spring and fall and any day from May through August. Car washing at home is a huge NO-NO and vehicles must be taken to car washes, where they use recycled water.
A new office building has been built near downtown Las Vegas that will house the Southern Nevada Water Authority. It is one of the few buildings in southern Nevada that has gone 'Green'. The building is not only green but it has been built to be energy efficient....and 'will consume less resources than any other building of its size," says Rich Worthington President of Molasky Companies (builder), "98% of the building's steel has been recycled."
The building will house a 24 Hour Fitness and there will be showers in the gym. Tenants of the building will be encouraged to ride their bikes to work and will have a place to clean up.
The cost? A mere $109 million to build! Much of the decision to go green had to do with the Southern Nevada Water Authority as the anchor tenant. If they are going to be telling valley residents to conserve, they need to be seen as conservationists also.
