Some thoughts on Real Estate and Natural Law on the last business day of 2011.

Some thoughts on Real Estate and Natural Law on the last business day of 2011.Today I will be closing out fiscal year 2011 for my business. And while the numbers were not completely disappointing, the amount of stress and hardship really was not commensurate with compensation.

Which begs the question: “WHY?”

Why indeed. The real estate world has become one of complete chaos. There are those that follow the rules and those that don’t. And even when there are no shenanigans afoot, new twists and turns tend to wreak havoc on EVERY transaction.

It is a natural law that entropy will continue to erode stability. Order will continue to deteriorate with each passing moment.

We can continue to choose to ignore the handwriting on the wall or we can make preparations.

Perhaps the Mayans were on to something after all!

Richard,

It's not the easiest profession at this point, but, for whatever reasons, it's the one we choose.

Happy New Year my friend.

Linda...

It's funny that so many look at the Mayan wheels and make dire predictions, just like Y@K but we are all still here! lol and thanks.

Rich...

What we have today is not the same jon I signed up for in 1984 ... except now the house prices are the same as they were back then! THX.

Deserved & earned compensation versus picking up the commission check with no effort placed as a representative for the money received.  After many years of doing my job, doing the other agent's job, doing what the seller should be doing, etc. I have concluded that there will be those transactions that I handled many facets of the sell and my dollar per hour is minimal wage or less.  The key fact is that the task gets done and hopefully the ripple of doing a good job will procure opportunity down the road with referrals/good reputation.  The focus is the year end bottom line, what does that look like or should look like.  Course correct, change some of your strategies/dollar productive activity/expenses and most of all attitude.  To make good adjustments and not worry about others being over paid but concentration on doing my good business decisions - that is what will give positive direction for next year's successes.  Happy New Year!

Richard..I look for the best year in over 4 years for my area.  Foreclosures are down and so is the inventory. prices are climbing ever so slightly.  Lets hope this spills over to other areas as well.

Hi Richard - That's a pretty dark message for the last day of a year that probably thoroughly deserves it. May you have a much more enjoyable and prosperous 2012.

This business certainly isn't a business where you can sit back and not work anymore. If you want to make it, you have to be good, honest and hard working and be willing to change with the times.

Funny - I've come to the same revelation - Closed as many as I've had in the past -  but worked much harder at it - and tempers were a bit higher over things - Lampscape of our times I guess

Sounds like we've all experienced the same thing -- a blip of some sort in every transaction. Sure keeps us on our toes! Here's to a much smoother 2012!
