I Saw A Yellow Bird

Yesterday, I took a few hours off to go look for interesting birds in Redlands, CA. I found this bird hiding in the trees and it was very much camouflaged. I got a couple of photos before he flew away. He was making all kinds of noise; not sure if he was on alert or singing.

I determined that it is probably a “Yellow-rumped Warbler”.

I had never seen this bird species before. It is very pretty but blended into the trees nicely so it made it hard to get a clean photo.

While researching the Cornell Lab of Ornithology-All About Birds site, it mentioned that these birds are much prettier and more yellow in the spring after they molt their winter feathers.

*P.S. The bird site mentioned above is great for determining species.

HI Diane,

Yes it was late in the afternoon and the bird was hidden inside this huge tree full of limbs and berries hanging down and causing all kinds of shadows. And of course I had my other camera and not my new one but they came out pretty good.  I liked the first and second (this was just a crop of the first) photos the best.

Happy Holidays!

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for stopping and commenting. With birds, you get good, so-so or bad photos but I typically put all of them in as they show the surrounding nature. I am going back in the morning one day and try to get some better ones. The birds seem to be attracted to the edible berries hanging down.

Happy Holidays.

P.S. My husband and I love Alaska and have been there twice and plan to go again next year by jeep.

Hi Kristan, putting all the photos in is best, because like you said it shows the surrounding nature, and each one gives a little different view and perspective especially with bird identification.

I look forward to seeing more of your photos.

Hi Li,

I agree with you totally. I was not expecting anything so colorful as we have sooooooo many backyard birds who hang around in Southern California due to the warmer climate but to see this pretty yellow bird was nice. I was chasing him over the area and tried not to scare him off. I think maybe others wonder if we are crazy when we are setting up and going for those photos. It is harder to get good nature pictures. Sometimes I am extremely lucky and other times not.

Happy Holidays.

HI Bob,

I like this photo and it is so religious looking with the angels blowing their trumpets. Is this at one of the hotels? I have seen them before?

Saw your temple picture and was going to go find your blog later and comment. It was a spectacular photo and the size is enormous.

Happy Holidays.

Hi Cheryl,

Yes by even including the not so perfect shots, it does giver the viewer a clearer perspective of the entire scene instead of one photo. But there are times that one photo is clearly enough.

Thanks for stopping again and coming back to comment. I will be checking out your blog too.

Kristin - I can imagine that yellow bird was pretty spectacular looking, while sitting among those red berries!

Hello Myrl,

It was so cute and little. I love those backyard birds. The little patches of yellow made it so unique and the berries are so pretty and red. It was a nice picture; the bottom was a little over-exposed but I liked it anyway.

Hi Michael,

Beside the bird being really neat, so was the tree. The third photo was the picture just the way I took it without any editing. The bird was way in the center and lined up perfectly. I like these trees and would like to plant one in my backyard.

Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Hi Patricia,

I find typically I get good ones and sometimes I am surprised with unexpected birds or events while on my travels. I try to take one of my cameras everywhere I go just in case. I have missed some good bird pictures while my camera sat on my desk at home!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Nice photos of the bird. I will take your word as to what it is. I don't know if I would have seen it, since it blends so well.

Hi Than,

Mother Nature protects her animals quite well doesn't she? This warbler was the exact color of the tree except for the yellow feathers. If it hadn't been moving around, I would have missed it myself.

Happy Holidays and I appreciate you stopping all the time to visit. Love your blog as well. Best of luck for an exceptional year in 2012.

Hi Debra,

I love backyard birds and look for birds wherever I go. I keep a camera in my car and if need be, I pull over and take some photos. The area where I took these a few weeks ago was lovely and had huge clumps of red berries. I planned to go back tomorrow and when I drove by today, all the leaves and berries are gone. The trees are just bare branches. OH NO!! I wonder where they went.
