This one is too good not to share...Since living in Ham Lake we have had our encounters with wildlife but with less than two weeks prior to Thanksgiving, this is one for the books.

turkeyMoments ago I was pulled away from my work on the computer due to a weird thumping noise. I was confused but thought maybe the cat was playing with something in the kids rooms...nothing upstairs. The noise was coming from the basement...maybe the cat had something downstairs...that can't be good as in the country, we get mice from time to time.

Nope! It was this guy and he scared me out of my wits! He was tapping at the glass of our basement window. I had to get a photo to prove it to everyone.

This is my third encounter with wild turkeys in Ham Lake. The first one didn't go so well and we are still cleaning miniscule shards of glass off the dashboard of the minivan. The second one was last year when one bird got trapped in the batting cage netting out back. But this one trying to get a free invite to Thanksgiving? Good thing I am not a hunter! :)

I have a great recipe for wild turkey -  It involves butter, mayo and sage.   We are in the middle of our hunting season maybe he was looking for some shelter.

Rebecca--YUM!!The birds are quite confused as they are being ignored these two weeks while it is deer hunting season. No shelter in my basement for stupid birds! I think he might have be seeing his reflection...as he didn't seem to see me.

Stacy--We have been here over 10 years and this is the first time a turkey invited himself in...We did have a pheasant on our front porch last winter and a hawk lives in one of our trees. :)

Great photo.  We have lots of turkeys in our town, they are really neat.  Sometimes I can hear them 'singing' out in the woods :)

Jennifer--It's a little creepy when you think he was looking down at me...I did get another shot when I was closer  to the window but his head was turned away....They aren't so neat if you hit the stupid things going 55 mph! Check out the link in the post to my first encounter!

Teri~ too funny, but I would have been scared if heard all that thumping in my basement too.  We have lots of wild turkey in the field behind my house, they're very noisy, especially when they're riles up over something!!

Lisa--We don't hear too much noise from the flock in our neighborhood but it is funny to watch them run across a field. I was amazed at how strong the pecking was! Thought he'd break the window!

Lynda--After the initial fright, it was too funny not to share. I took the picture so my husband and kids could see that I am still being tormented by turkeys...The boys were in the car when I hit the one going 55 mph!

Margaret--It wasn't really handy. The dang bird was very persistant. He tapped for about 10 minutes. Plenty of time for me to go upstairs to my office and get my camera and snap the shot. I didn't want to take too long though because I was certain that he would break the glass eventually!

Teri - that is too funny. My little visitor right now is a squirrel who keeps trying to bury his nuts in my flower pots that I still have on the deck. I see him at least three times a day. I don't have the heart yet to bring in my pots and destroy is stash!

Jennifer--How cute!! We feed the aquirrels in the winter! We discovered last winter that they love bananas...They had chewed through the top of the garbage bins to get the peelings out. There were 3 gray and one black squirrels that would come and visit every day. Our cat loved it! But the red squirrels started to come and they eat cedar. When they started chewing the wood on our front porch, we decided we will have to come up with a feeder a bit further into the yard.

Perhaps he is a present from God, and maybe you should invite him in and show him where the kitchen is! LOL

That is too funny! He might be quite tasty in a pot of boiling peanut oil.  Deep fried turkey is quite the delicacy now.
