Short Trips - Starting New
With the addition of Jehanne from Paris to our family this school year, we've been taking a lot of short trips to show off Arizona and vicinity to her.
It's been fun - A Mountain, Gates Pass, Tombstone, Colossal Cave, Tucson Padres Baseball, Rangers Ice Hockey, Albuquerque, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Monument Valley, Jerome, Christmas events, Kitt Peak, Petrified Forest, The Crater, San Diego, Los Angeles, Painted Desert, Salt River...
I started thinking about how short trips can change our perspective. We've always ready to get home and start the next project, or work day, or just unwind and do nothing - but it's like "starting over" when you return from a short trip.
A short trip can be as short as a bubble bath. Or a good book. How about a walk around the neighborhood or to a new business or restaurant in town?
Short trips inspire communication and togetherness.
Short trips give us a chance to appreciate our surroundings, count our blessings, and start anew upon each return.
I'm thinking on the whole, 2011 was a short trip within my life plan, and 2012 signifies a change to start anew.
I have some aspirations for the new year as simple as adding more water to my daily routine.
As you reflect upon your own short trips of 2011, what comes to mind for your tomorrows?
I have clients facing incomprehensible challenges this year, including loss, relocation, financial struggles, and new jobs. I'm glad they are sharing with me and it brings me back full circle to my short trip idea here. If you aren't taking your own short trip - maybe you're supposed to be the passenger for someone else's journey.
It's always better together.
Happy New Year.
