Of course, there continues to be so much controversy about the War , BUT no matter what your political feelings and beliefs, one thing is undeniable: WE OWE SO MUCH TO THOSE WHO CHOSE TO SERVE.
I don't talk about it too often, but I often think about those individuals, including my own father, who chose to sign up for military service so those of us who either couldn't serve or didn't choose to serve, could still enjoy the life we so enjoy in this country.
Veteran's Day is upon us - and I challenge you to do something nice for a Veteran. I also challenge you to not only think about the women and men who serve once a year on November 11 - but 365 days a year. Don't know anyone who has or who is serving our country? No problem! Xerox has made it easy for us to reach out to say Thanks at: LetsSayThanks.com. To send care packages to those who are overseas, check out: AnySoldier.com
Many of our Veterans have trouble coping with the aftermath of war (e.g. sleeping throughout the night, or adjusting to other aspects of civilian life) - but chances are, you will never hear them complain about it publicly. Instead, they choose to make the best out of their lives - by going back to their jobs, raising children, volunteering in their communities, etc.
In Raleigh, on Saturday, November 10, 2007, we're honoring our Veterans with the Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony. The parade begins at 9 a.m. and will be followed by a formal ceremony at the State Capitol at 11 a.m. See this map for details.
I hope you have a great weekend! How will you be celebrating Veterans Day?
