Moving? Remember that depending on where you are located, some of the various charities do have trucks that pick up those large household items that you are willing to donate rather than move.

Depending on how far you are moving you might want to donate a lot of larger items. I recently had a couple moving to Tennessee that were considering not taking any furniture at all with them. It costs so much to move those larger items these days!!!

Depending on your location, Hospice and Goodwill Industries both have trucks that come to your home to pick up those items! You will need to give them at least a week advance notice, but it is well worth planning in advance! You are taking care of your own problem and doing good for someone else at the same time!

Check your local yellow pages or do an internet search for your local phone numbers. From there you can be redirected to the 'pick up line'.

Barbara -Jo & Bill,

Donating old and buying new (or near new) isn't a bad idea to consider...I pickup all heirlooms free of charge!!! :^) Thanks,   Fran

Fran - I will pass that on to all clients!!!

Seriously, you generally recycle your sofa every half dozen years, so if it is almost time, why pay to move those things??? And the various organizations that you donate to are really happy to get these items!

Great idea. I'm thinking of downsizing myself and forgot about this option.  I was thinking of a garage sale, but who has time for that..and I don't want to haul the stuff out to the curb.

Cheryl - I took some furniture today and donated it - it is always the best way to get rid of those things - somebody is benefiting from it -
