Inspiration- Perspective From A 12 Year Old

Today my son's hockey team tied a crucial game in a tournament that they needed to win in order to make it to the championship.  The coach was mad because he said they lacked inspiration. He gave them an assignment to do and have ready before next practice. The assignment was to write a page about what inspiration means and how you find it.

My son is 12 and he inspires me daily. He has a wall with quotes that he finds inspirational. He went to work on his paper and was finished in ten minutes. I asked to see it and was pretty impressed. Here it is and yes, I asked his permission to post. I thought it could apply to a New Year and New Goals for Many.

Inspiration by Bryce DeFazio January 1, 2012

Inspiration to me is that feeling that helps you to push forward to do what you set your mind to, the feeling that helps you to keep your head up even when things get difficult, the feeling that helps you stick together with the people that are on your side fighting with you no matter what the conditions are. Inspiration helps you to achieve your goals and make your dreams reality.

I get inspired by successful people like really good NHL players, and just people that care about their goals and want to reach them, and once they reach them they set higher ones and achieve those. I have idols and look up to them and listen to what they have to say. I want to be like them and get noticed by others and have them start looking up to me and see me as a leader and idolize me. But I can’t do that without inspiration and hard work.

Here are a few quotes from different people that inspire me.

-          Have a purpose with everything you do.

-          You miss 100% of the shots that you never take.

-          Mediocrity is not good enough.

-          Make your own luck.

-          Never back down.

-          Accept adversity, it’s a good thing.

-          Don’t pursue happiness, create it.

-          Always over deliver and under promise.

-          It’s up to you to prove your worth, that you deserve to be here.

-          There are no environments where you are only going to win because life just isn't like that.

-          The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.

-          You are not guaranteed tomorrow.

-          The only thing that can hold you back is you.

-          There are no shortcuts in life.

-          No matter how good you think you are, there is always someone better.

-          Whether you think you are going to win or lose, you’re right.

Those are quotes from people that inspire me and motivate me to do what I want in life. The message I get from them is that you only live once so you have to make it count or you don’t deserve it. Life is a gift and inspiration helps you to give back by doing what you want to do. You have to set goals and work towards them or you might as well just give up. Quitters never gain anything, I guess they just need to be inspired and push themselves to be winners.

The main person that inspires me is God. He is with me and all of us and grants us the strength to achieve our goals. We just have to use it.

Teri- Thanks a bunch!

Phil- Thanks for the Reblog!

Pamela- Thank you! Happy New Year to you as well.

Loreena-I have always collected quotes and put various ones up on my BB from time to time. He collected these on his own though. I am pretty sure your son is learning from a master on success!!!

Charlie- The funny thing is that he complained about having to write it. I do agree that sports (with the right coach) can teach kids so much about life in general.

I think it's good to find something in life to inspire you.  For me, a hockey parent, coach, player, etc....my inspriration is a child on my sons team.  Alex was diagnosed with lukemia in 2008 and has been a tough kid throughout the entire process.  You can read about Alex at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/ovi14

Keller Williams Tattersall- The Gretzky quote is one of my favorites of all times!

Michael- Thank you! I hope so. He IS very goal oriented.

Erica- Adversity. I don't think I even knew what that word meant at age 12. LOL.

Andre- Thanks a bunch! I tend to agree, but I am biased!

Mike- He put off writing the paper and complained about having to do it. He had it folded up and stuck in his hockey bag. I didn't even get to see it until I asked for it. The  picture was a hockey tournament in Nashville just a couple of months ago.

Bill- I hope he remembers all of these things! Thanks for stopping by.

"I get inspired by successful people like really good NHL players, and just people that care about their goals and want to reach them, and once they reach them they set higher ones and achieve those." Love this! Sounds like he's got great perspective and won't settle which will be fantastic attributes in the future! I know you are proud. Happy New Year!

Margie- Although it is in 12 yr. old language, it makes sense, huh?

Sharon- Thanks. Not sure where it comes from, but I like it!

Mike- He can be mature and he can also be a typical 12 yr. old. He asks a lot of questions about things that I never even thought of at his age.

Barb- Thanks a bunch! Happy New Year to you as well!

Hi Kristi, it looks and sounds like he is going to be following with Mom's writing talents. Great paper and you should be rightly proud.

Thanks, Rosalie! Happy New Year to you!

Sandy- The ironic thing is- his older brother has always been known for his writing abilities and has been praised for it. Bryce doesn't enjoy writing, but I hope that will change.

Wow! It sitll amazes me how much our youth pay attention and how they put it all together. Great thoughts from a young man who will have no problems staying on goal. You got to be proud.

Great post Kristi - your son is very inspirational himself!  And I see you have attended an NHL game in Nashville where I live!  I love the Predators...  Thank him for the inspiration.

Congrats on the feature!

Wow you can be proud of that little man.  :)  I can see you now (because I just experienced this) when he leaves for college. . . :)

Seriously - someone said to me "It is better to have tried and failed than to have failed and not tried"

Maybe your son will like that one too.

My kids are my most important teachers too:)

They taught me patience. The smaller they were they more they impressed me( questions, observation, way of doing things, etc.)
