Have you made your New Year Resolution List? This year, aside from eating better and exercising more, add a few easy steps to get your home ready for the New Year! Everyone has that list of things that just never seems to get done around the house. They may get pushed to the back of your mind or shoved into your junk drawer — but that list is still there. And, what better time to tackle these items than the New Year? Follow these easy steps to prepare your home for a brand new year.
1) Change your Air Filter.
As a home builder in Tampa, Florida I can attest to the fact that our air conditioners have to work hard, like when we have an 80 degree Christmas. So, mark your calendar for the 1st of each month and replace your air filter! A good clean filter will improve efficiency and air quality inside your home. And, if you haven’t already….
2) Install a programmable thermostat in your home.
It's a simple tool that can help cut down dramatically on heating and cooling costs.
3) Clean out gutters thoroughly, and reattach any loose pieces of your gutters.
4) Check smoke and CO alarms.
Make sure your family is safe from all potential dangers by testing your smoke and CO alarms, and replacing batteries. Look at the manufacturing date on each of your alarms. According to Consumer Reports, smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years, and CO alarms should be replaced every five.
5) If “Get More Organized” is on your list of New Year’s Resolutions ~ MAKE A PLAN!
The plan can be bullet points on your things to do list. When you break down big jobs into smaller segments the chance of actually getting started is way higher. So, start with the junk drawer in your kitchen, and you might even find the list of things that you have been meaning to do around your home.
