I get so frustrated every time I hear a news report or read  the paper with another story about how there are no homes selling and no one can get a mortgage because all the mortgage brokers are so unethical.  All mortgage brokers are not unethical!  We do a lot of good for our customers.

We are helping a gentleman to lower his payment by $100/month and it's not costing him a dime out of pocket.  Prior to a past client recommending our service two other loan officers from two different companies found on the internet, had stopped returning his calls after he had decided to go with them.

We are able to assist a woman lower her rate over 2 points, drop her payment over $350/mo. also at no out of pocket cost and nothing added to her current mortgage.

We were able to help a foster mom to get enough cash out to get a new furnace and new windows before the winter. My brother Tony even provided handyman services to get her home ready for the appraiser.

We just worked with a family, who in June had a credit score that would barely allow them to shop at Wal-Mart,   to buy a home with less than 4% total out of pocket, and within 6 months, we will be able to help him lower thier rate and therefore his payment at no cost. We will continue to work with them to increase their scores to allow for a wider variety of mortgage options in the future.

We will be able to assist a 68 year old widow to eliminate her almost $1400 mortgage payment completely, and get either a monthly check or a lump sum payout, while being able to live in her home as long as she chooses.

There are lots of good loan officers out there with stories just like these.  I wish the media would print some of these stories and stop manipulating statistics.  This is the time to buy, there are lots of motivated sellers out there!  This is a great time to refinance, mortgage rates are still at historic lows.  This is the time to talk to a mortgage PROFESSIONAL to determine what is in your best interest.  If you get any "funny" feelings that they are not being 100% honest, if they are not returning your calls, if you don't feel that they have your best interest at heart, look elsewhere!  Get recommendations from friends, co-workers and family members.

The internet is a great place to get some basic information, and some education, but are you going to choose a doctor, a lawyer, a dentist, an accontant, a plumber by the lowest rate shown on the internet?  Your home is by far one of your biggest investments, don't trust it to someone you will never see and isn't interested in your welfare.  The rates shown on the internet are typically teaser rates to get you to call.  Talk to them if you'd like, then call me, I bet you'll be surprised at what we can do to help.

Warm Regards,

Bridget,

You are so right in many ways! Good for you pointing it out to others. I'd love to see more of this.

Great Title for the post.  Unfortunately it is so very true.  I keep hoping that there will be something to draw the media focus to something else for about 3 or 4 months.  I figure that is about how long it would take for the public to shift back to home shopping.

Just think...a new round of Mad cow hysteria could actually give the talking heads something else to focus on for a couple of months.

Bridgett, You are so right!  I am so sick of the media scaring everybody.  I guess we just have to keep working to educate the consumers and hope the media catches on to what we are telling them.

AMEN! I wish we could muzzle the press. They dont care that their coverage of the slump if feeding the slump! Not surprising though, is it? After all, they wouldn't care who was killed if they would leak national security intel if it made the front page and boosted the ratings! Just "doing their job" and reporting the "news."

You can combat this just by doing what you do here on Active Rain! If you disagree with an article, post a comment. People read the comments on these articles. Plus, our editors read these comments as well. Let everyone know your background and what your take is on the subject.

Take this article on rising mortgage rates for example. All you have to do is scroll to the bottom and type in a comment and we'll post it. No registering, no filtering (except for curse words), and no delays.

I'm with Baltimoresun.com so I tend to defend us, but when you read something you disagree with, let us know-
