Having Fun with My New Camera Lens

By
Industry Observer with Retired

One of my all time favorite photos was of a little monkey that crawled up on a photographers camera in a rain forest in Central America. As he stretched out over the top of the large camera lens, the photographer captured him just as he bent into the hood looking into the front of the camera. While it was not my photo which is why I can't share it with you, I did a little recreation that sort of gives you the idea.

This little fellow is one of a collection of several baby apes and chimpanzees that I have on a 10 ft Palm tree in my family room. Although they are stuffed animals hanging in that tree, they always make me smile. So I thought I would borrow one to recreate a semblance of one of my favorite  photos.

As an animal lover, I would be very content if the rest of photography efforts was focused on animals. This new year hopefully will afford at least some opportunity to bring you some whale sightings, more animals from local and far away zoos, many wild birds found locally inland and coastal and of course the many communities and major events in and around San Diego.

I am so glad you told us it was a stuffed animal, or I would have thought it was you, who pilfered Banana Sam from the San Francisco zoo in the last several days.  Fortunately, he has been retrieved and is back in his normal digs:-)

William - You never cease to amaze me.  I would have never guessed you to be the type to have a palm tree with a menagerie of stuffed critters hanging out in your family room.  There's hope for you afterall. . .I guess your mama did something right:-)

Hi William - Very cute photo.  And you might have an opportunity to get some of those whales because I heard on the news that there have been record sightings and larger than usual numbers hanging around your area.

Thanks for sharing your story and the photograph.  I enjoy photographing animals but would need to upgrade my equipment to to much of what I would enjoy. Most of the time, I can photograph flowers without a powerful telephoto lens.  We will make more trips to the National Zoo this year.

Happy New Year!

Hi Everyone, Thank for your great comments. Been a bit overwhelmed the last few days but I will get back to address each comment. Judy, I will take a photo for you ( need to remount the baby ape that I used in the above photo), LOL.

The lens is the 80-400mm Tokina telephoto lens. I am delighted with the trial photos. Here is one taken of the Santa on my Christmas tree from approx. 15 feet away.
